Mako reached for his red scarf around his neck, only to discover it wasn't there. He groaned softly but tried to brush it off, like nothing happened. It had been a week since he gave his scarf to his grandmother and he missed it. He had done it voluntarily, but there was still regret at giving up his prized possession.
Like when he gave up Korra.
It was all he could do to not embrace her everyday, but like with the scarf, he had to let them go.
Mako sighed again and Korra looked over at him. He was being his normal, brooding self. She wondered what was going on his mind.
She missed him so much. It hurt her physically to be so close to him, yet not be able to kiss him, or hug him, even. She loved him with all her heart, but the troubles of Harmonic Convergence and the drama broke their relationship down. She just wanted someone to hold her and love her.
She hated being so vulnerable. She was the Avatar. She was supposed to be the strongest bender ever. She wasn't supposed to be pining over her ex. She was suppose to be kicking butt.
She shook her head, and looked away from Mako, who was looking at her.
They stole so many glances, each filled with love. Yet, they couldn't say the one thing they wanted to say to each other out loud.
They couldn't say I love you.
