Chapter 1. Lost

"But bro, I'm not that stupid to do that! And even if I did, they aren't bad!" I was screaming at my brother, Dave Strider. His head turned towards me and talked sternly to me, "They are bad! Don't even think about ever hanging out with them!" I stood up and screamed, "YOU'RE NOT MY DAD!" I then ran out of the front door and started walking, letting my legs take me wherever. 'Perhaps I should apologize... He has always told me the truth about things... But, I didn't see anything wrong with them.... The Trolls... Why do the humans have to be so mean to them?' I was soon taken away from my thoughts because I realized I didn't know where I was. And of course, it started pouring rain at that moment. I put my hood on and searched my pockets for my phone and realized I left it at home. I started to get scared and also start to cry. I then saw a dark figure not to far away. I couldn't see it clearly because it was night. The figure got closer and closer to me and I got even more scared. I stepped back as the figure approached me and I slipped and fell. "WATCH WHERE YOU'RE- HUMAN?" I looked up to see a male Troll with small nubby horns. I stuttered and said, "U-uh I-I'm s-so s-sorry..." I was hoping the Troll wasn't going to kill me. Dave once told me that most Trolls were violent. "What is a stupid human like you doing in an Alternian District at night? Did you come to prank us, again?" He looked mad and I shook me head and said, "N-no! I promise I'm not pranking anyone! I-I went the wrong w-way and n-now I'm l-lost..." I was trying to stop my crying but was failing utterly. The Troll sighed angrily and said, "You're lost huh? Where the hell is your phone? Can't you call someone?" I shook my head and said, "I-I don't have it..." He facepalmed and said, "Dumb shit... You can use my phone at my hive... Get up." I got up while shaking and followed the male Troll. When we arrived at the Troll's house- I mean hive, he opened the door for me and I walked in.

When I was inside, I took my hood off my head to reveal soaking wet hair. I was shivering and the male Troll threw me his phone and I caught it. I dialed in my brother's number and braced myself for his anger. He picked up and said angrily, "TALIA WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?!" I didn't honestly know, so I asked the Troll, "W-what is the street name where my b-brother should p-pick me u-up?" He sighed and said, "3rd and Keep street." I answered my brother saying, "3rd and K-Keep s-street..." I heard him grab his keys on the other end and he said, "Godammit Talia... I'll meet you on the corner of those streets..." He hung up and I handed the phone back and said, "T-thank you..." I opened the door and the male Troll shouted, "WHOA HEY! YOU CANT WALK IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD ALONE! LET ME WALK WITH YOU DUMB ASS!" He threw me a jacket and I put it on. We walked out the door and I said to him, while walking, "W-what's your n-name?" He answered back, "None of your goddamned business." I said softly, "M-my name is Talia May..." We got to the corner and he said, "Don't wander Alternian streets alone, okay, nookwhiff?" I chuckled and said, "Y-yeah... Understood." I saw Dave's car and handed the Troll his jacket back and said, "Thanks for the help, uh-" He cut me off and said, "Karkat, Karkat Vantas." I smiled and yelled at him as he blended into the shadows, "THANKS KARKAT!" I then got into my brother's car.

"WHAT THE HELL WHERE YOU THINKING, TALIA?" I sighed and said, "I got lost, okay? That's it..." He took off his sunglasses and said, "Talia! What if you got hurt?! What if you got kidnapped?!" I growled and said, "Well I didn't! I'm fine!!! See?!" He started driving home, which was only three minutes away. When we got home to the apartment, my brother grabbed my arm and said, "Go to your room, that should be punishment enough!" I scoffed and went into my room and went to sleep. After all, I had school tomorrow.
