"The man who made me leave you, the man who forced me to send that signal when you were in garbatulla. The man who threatened to eliminate you the way he eliminated William. This man is the pawn master. Senior superintendent retired Julius Mwamvuli. The exit wound was on Williams forehead but the postmortem report said that he was shot on the chest. He was shot at close range with a light weapon. No bandit would have gotten that close and no bandit or cattle rustler uses a light weapon. It was all planned. The man who forced me to marry him...."
"Shut the fuck up and untie me or....!" David shouted.
"Or what son? What will you do?" Came a voice from the door, the same voice that I heard before I passed out.
The door was opened and in came Kajane Senior.
This guy we had trained with him, we always ha each other's back.
I couldn't believe my eyes. He was the only idiot crazy enough to have kidnapped us. He knew all there was to know about the two of us.
"Listen you two" , Kajane started
"Whatever your love affair is, you girls need to put it aside. I can only offer wise counsel to you. You have both been set up. William was killed in cold blood by mwamvuli. One of you idiots is next if you don't do something. Your brother Alfred is in jail for something he didn't do". He pointed at David.
"As for you, you will either die or go to jail for nothing. For your stupidity. You will never see Junior again, you will never teach him how to ride a bike. I will untie you idiots to make your own decisions."
He uncuffed my arms and uncuffed David.
Winnie walked out and came back in with our clothes.
We dressed without talking, just breathing heavily. A million and one thoughts were going through my mind.
" Will you girls kiss and make up? " Kajane asked sarcastically.
"Fuck you!!" we barked in unison.
"Joe, I know I caused you pain. I didn't know how to explain. Mwamvuli wanted to eliminate you, he forced me to marry him so he would leave you in peace. After some time when you resigned. She started mistreating me and a few months ago, I learnt that he wanted to eliminate you before he retired. He has been violent to me and our son.... " Winnie started sobbing.
I noticed a photo of her in an inspectors clothing.
" I see you slept your way to the rank of inspector. That's a lot of cum from the ancestor mwamvuli ". I was angry but still I cared about her.
" Say what you have to, but I beg you, fight for your son". She said amid sobs.
The thought of that buffoon hitting my boy was the spark that I needed to ignite my fire.
"Where can I find him? "  David asked.
He extended his hand towards me as a gesture of a friendly handshake. I took his hand.
"Where can we find him?" I asked.
"That's nice ladies, you can hug and kiss now." Kajane interjected.
I let David deal with him. All the insults he could find.
It was time to kiss and make up.
I embraced Winnie, she was sobbing a few steps away from me. I held her and kissed her deeply.
" I have missed you ". I said.
" I think you are mistaking me for that whore Alice". She was openly jealous.
"Oh please, it's too early to be jealous". I stated curtly.
"I'm not jealous. Let me get something for you". She walked out.
"It's been long. How have you been?" Kajane turned his attention on me.
"I'm great. Almost giving up on this nightmare". I answered.
"It will soon be over brother". David said as he tapped my shoulder.
Winnie walked in with a file and handed it to me.
It's was a medical report for James Kariuki.
It clearly stated that he had a low sperm count and medically impotent.
"So who's the father to Daisy?" I asked.
"Daisy's father is in jail for the murder of Mark murimi. Her uncle is here with us. Daisy's father was framed." Everything was starting to get complicated.
"Oh, sorry to disappoint you, your little whore has been with more men that you can count. Did she lie to you that James is the father to her daughter. Here, compare these two girls. One is Daisy and the other is Maureen Kimosop". She handed me two photos.
I couldn't believe my eyes. They looked like sisters. Why would Alice lie to me that James had impregnated her sister? I asked myself.
"That's why I can never trust a woman. You are all twisted devils. Full of shit". I cursed.
David and Kajane laughed in unison.
It was becoming more clear to me that I was just a pawn a useless card in a game that Mwamvuli controlled.
"Mwamvuli has three homes. One is in Faza Island where his first wife stays. He's always here after a fortnight every weekend.
He has another home in Fedha estate. This is a secret house, he stays alone here and the only person who he is seen with entering this house is his driver, "The Raven".
Then there is the apartment that we are in now. He used to stay here with Winnie until she kicked him out."  Wanjohi Wa Jane explained.
" What the fuck... You had me tied up in a house that my sworn enemy pays for? " I was starting to get furious.
"Oh come on, cool your tits. I was here watching over you. We went through hell together. I always had your back even at the training school. Nothing would have happened". Wanjohi wa Jane interjected.
"we hit him in fedha." Winnie concluded.
We all nodded in agreement. We had tea and David walked out together with Wanjohi wa Jane.
Junior came from a separate bedroom, sleepy in his pyjamas.
He sat next to me.
"Good morning stranger tow mater". He greeted me.
"Good morning junior McQueen".
His left eye and lower lip were swollen.
"What would you like to be when you grow up?" I asked him.
"A race car driver". He answered.
"Not a cop like daddy?" I asked.
"No, cops hit women. My daddy beats mum and me. Look, he hit me here". He pointed at his swollen eye.
"Joe, I think you should catch up with your friends. Please leave. I'll find you. I'll call you". Winnie was uncomfortable with our conversation.
"If you send that..." I couldn't curse in front of my son.
"I won't send him". She smiled and waved.
I rose and left.
The lump on my throat now bigger with every step I took. I now had the motive. I wanted Mwamvuli dead.
A part of me was at peace knowing that David wouldn't sneak up on me trying to bite my head off.
Another part of me was worried. I didn't know whether to trust any of the people we had in this new alliance. I couldn't just forget what Winnie did to me. I couldn't assume that David wasn't mad at me anymore. I had pointed the investigating officer on his brother's direction. Lastly Wanjohi Wa Jane, he had knocked me out cold. But still I needed my redemption, my vengeance, my right, Armageddon was calling.
When I got to my house, I called Winnie.
"Who's the Raven?" I asked.
"The Raven. His real names are Wycliff Mwole. He was a range instructor at APTC for a while before an ammunitions scandal was unraveled, he was selling bullets to civilian militants. He was to be fired but Superintendent Mwamvuli helped him. He was sent to serve in Lamu. He never reported to the station and a signal was sent that stated that he was on special duty on the then newly formed silver squad.
With his expertise, he has been eliminating anyone Mwamvuli took as a threat. He was the one responsible for the death of the college commandant Isaiah Ndumi.
It looked like an accident but it was not. He's a well trained marksman who has earned the country medals on range competitions. " Winnie described him fully. His strengths.
"Sounds like he will have us for dinner. Does he have a family?, does he drink, does he have a girlfriend, dies he drive, what kind of car, dies he go to church, which church, what kind of weapon does he prefer, how good is he at martial arts? "
I had to know everything about him.
" He dies the dirty work for Mwamvuli, he rarely drinks out. He doesn't have a family but he visits brothels. He's not very good at martial arts but he can shoot wings off a fly. He already knows you. You are his target. He's probably following you and David. If he finds out you are no longer hunting each other, he will move in to finish you off".
Winnie added.
The Raven seemed like a man with no weakness, no soft spot, the perfect fighting machine, a man with no attachment.
"He's royal to Mwamvuli, and Mwamvuli is royal to you. You will have to be in the mess. Start making up with Mwamvuli". I had a plan.
"No way, are you crazy". She shouted.
"Yes way Winnie. It's the only way". I hang up.
After two days, we met up with David and Winnie. We agreed that Winnie should make up with mwamvuli. We had to sacrifice for the task ahead.
Winnie would track and report every movement of the two and hopefully make it easier for us to eliminate them.

The fateful night came. We sat on our rented apartment in Buruburu where we had been planning.
David put on a song on his phone.
Armageddon time a come
And the fittest a di fittest,
dem alone ago mek it Wua,
a terrible time a come And the fittest a di fittest,
dem alone ago mek it, yeah
We sang along to Tarrus Riley
