Aged 9

Ashton:

"Ashton!" Kate came running into my bedroom, grinning like a mad man."Guess what! You know that Samantha girl?"

"The one that peed herself in kindergarten?" I chuckled, sitting up and putting my comic book down.

"Yeah! Well she had to drop out of the school play, guess who is taking her place as THE LEAD!"

"Hm... Mr Hawkey?" I joked, she hated being teased, it was hilarious to watch her writhe and stop herself screaming.

"The math teacher? Ew no. MEEEEE!" She screeched.

She leaped onto my bed and hugged me tightly.

"Thats awesome! Congrats Lucas!" I chuckled, putting my arms around her tiny frame.

"Oh no!" She pulled back and gasped.

"What?"

"Samantha is a lot bigger than me! Her dress wont fit!" She looked like she was on the verge of tears, she kissed the top of my head then raced out of my room, slammed my front door and I laughed as I heard her run through the field and across the road to her house.

I picked up my comic book and carried on reading it.

As lovely as Kate was, she is a bit of a drama queen; all dancing and singing, she barely fits me in anymore!

I dont really mind, just the fact that I was kind of in love with her made it that bit harder to act like i just want to be friends.

We have been there for each other through everything ; when I broke my toe playing football, she visited me every day until it was healed.

When she went into a 'state of depression' when she didnt get a part in a musical, I sat with her for three weeks, helping her get back on her feet.

When her parents were arguing a lot, she came and stayed at my house until they sorted it out.

When her older sister Macy had to go away for a modelling job, I stayed with Kate to keep her company.

When my little sister Stacey was born we made our own babysitting business just for her.

We were so close and I loved it.

Aged 14

Kate:

I'm going to be late.

So late.

I practically ran down the road to school, I almost didnt even notice Ash catch up with me when I ran past his house.

"Kate- why- are you.... running?" Ash asked, between gasps for oxygen.

"We are almost late!" I reminded him.

"We have ten minutes to get to school!" He slowed down to a jog and showed me his watch.

He was right. We had ten minutes before school started.

I checked my watch and realised I must have read it wrong.

"Oh, Lucas." Ash laughed.
