YOLO

The day I died began like any other, with Sarah Lawrence and the scent of Daria's cigarette still in the air. Of course, she was just downstairs, probably making breakfast as she smoked another, knowing that hopeless addict. So whatever she made would probably taste like not just normal food smoke (Daria burned everything), but also her cigarette smoke. I probably needed a better roommate.

Sarah was good though. Sarah always was. Her brown eyes were more beautiful than the sun, shining and glittering with the brilliance of all the stars put together. And then some. Her blonde hair hung delicately in front of her face, but it wasn't her hair she brushed away, but mine. That somehow made her more beautiful.

"Honey, wake up," she said, smiling sweetly. She was always sweet and soft and beautiful, and I really just couldn't resist pulling her into a kiss. Her lips were just as sweet as her personality, despite having mixed with Daria's smoke. What a wonderful way to wake up, I thought with a contented sigh as Sarah pulled away gently.

"We should really stop Daria before she burns down the house," Sarah whispered.

I nodded, getting out of bed and getting dressed. "DARIA, IF I FIND YOU MAKING BREAKFAST, I'M GOING TO SHOOT YOU IN THE FOOT!" I shouted down the stairs as I pulled my pants on.

"Calm your tits, Honey!" Daria yelled back. "I'll stop, alright? Geez. It's not like my cooking is going to kill you."

Sarah cocked her head, looking as adorable as ever. "It very well might."

I grinned at her. I couldn't help it. Sarah just lit me up. "See you in the kitchen."

I caught a glimpse of Sarah's shy smile as I pounded my way downstairs. Daria was muttering under her breath as she tossed a couple of black pieces of bread into the trash can. "That's racist," I sat down on a barstool, looking out our window. The orange leaves of the big oak out front blocked our view of almost everything, the only thing we could see being the local zoo we lived right across from. Why did they have a condominium across from a zoo? I had no idea.

"The last time I gave you burnt toast, I'm pretty sure you spat it back up and then threw the toaster out the window," Daria said, smiling at the memory. "I made you buy a new toaster."

"Of course you did," I sighed. "We'll eat out. I don't wanna risk getting poisoned by any of your--"

"YES!" Daria suddenly shouted. She was looking out the window too. "THAT'S WHAT WE'LL DO!"

"WHY ARE WE YELLING?" I gave Daria a skeptical look.

"BECAUSE WE ARE GOING TO FREE THE POOR ANIMALS FROM THAT ZOO!" Daria was practically buzzing with excitement.

"Please no," I sighed. "I'm really not up to commit a crime today."

"It'll be fun!" Daria threw her jacket on while managing to still keep her cigarette dangling from her lips. She was easily the most pro smoker I've ever met. "And you've seen those monkeys. They're just begging to be set free."

"I heard you from upstairs," Sarah's quiet voice chimed in. "This is a bad--ack!"

Daria dragged Sarah behind her, walking out the front door. "Come on, Honey! Those elephants won't let themselves out!"

I ran after Sarah more than I ran after Daria. Who knew what would happen to my fiance if I left her alone with Daria for a whole of three minutes? Of course, Daria was running too, so by the time I caught up, she had already managed to sneak into the tiger exhibit. This was easy for her only because she worked there. Daria was a terrible sneaker, and a terrible criminal, really.

"You're going to get us arrested," I said, pulling Sarah away from my insane roommate. She tucked her head into my collarbone, and I held her tightly.

"Nonsense," Daria was beaming. She got off on these sorts of crazy stunts."No one comes to a zoo this early. We'll be fine for a while. Besides, what's life without a little thrill?"

Before I could protest, she let the tigers loose.

The orange cats made a break for it, running straight for the gate. We were so absolutely screwed.

"Lions next!" Daria said giddily. "Honey, you do this one!"

"Oh hell no," I gripped Sarah tightly. "There's no way I'm letting a bunch of lions loose, especially this close to our place."

Daria gave me the pouty lip. "Come on, Hon. It can't get any worse than it already is."

Sarah bit her lip, pushing away from me. "I'll do it."

"Sarah," I protested, looking into her eyes. "Don't. This is crazy. Let's go while we can."

"No, Daria is right," Sarah gave me a nervous smile. She was never good at hiding her emotions. "It's just a bit of wild fun. There's no harm in it."

I would've told Sarah that there 100% was harm in it, but I couldn't say no to her. She was my only weakness. "Okay," I said softly. "I'll go with you."

As we were heading over to the cage, I heard 'The Immigrant Song' begin playing behind us. I gave Daria a strange look over my shoulder.

Daria shrugged, holding her phone high above her head as she grinned. "We were missing Led Zeppelin."

Sarah was the one to flip the switch, but I was right beside her.

That probably saved her life.

One of the lions pounced right at her, mouth wide open and claws extended. I only managed to grab her hand before I stepped directly in front of the lion, in front of her exposed back.

And that's why you should let me into heaven. Because I saved someone's life. And because I had to watch her sob as I left.

And also, my dying was completely Daria's fault, so honestly, just let me in, will ya?
