Mary was confused by the actions of her father. Mary sat in her window at Ludlow. her ladies were reading a book or sewing. The princess was thinking of the most recent development.
"Madame. Your Grace, Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk is here." said a squire. Mary nodded her head in consent and said "Thank you Thomas."
Mary stood and faced the door. Charles Brandon saw a young Catherine as he looked at the young girl. He had a pokerface but Mary recognized something.
"ladies, you are dismissed for the day. I will call on you if you are needed" her voice calm, serene, and queen-like.
Charles motioned he could if he could sit. Mary nodded and sat in a seat just across from him.
"Princess, I am about to tell you something that is going to destroy you." Charles began taking a deep breath. "Your father has decided that your parents marriage is null and void. He planning on divorcing your mother." He paused allowing her to think then continued. "He plans to declare you illegitmate, princess, and marry you off." to me. He thought.
She knew that something was being hidden from her. She was raised being able to read people. But she was not going to ask, he looked pained enough to tell her that. All she wanted to ask and would is.
"Why?"
"He thinks that your mother will not be able to produce a child."
"A son" Mary sighed.
Mary knew that. Charles watched her and did something unexpected.
"Do you wish to hug?"
"yes"
Charles stayed with Mary as it had begun to rain. Mary entertained the duke with reading and her intelligence. Charles enjoyed being alone with Mary.
A messenger came the next day. It was a note from the king to Mary. He requested that Mary return with Charles.
