I gaze outwards leaning onto the stones built intricately on the tip of my fingers. The only light source is the usual street lights that diminishes the stars across the dark blue sky. I leaned onto the bridge seeing the sky's reflection on the River. I gaze outwards with eyes full of sadness and a heart that is sunken. Everyday for me seemed to get longer., I wanted my entire body to sink into the dark blue reflections. I place one leg on the stony edge of the bridge, I then placed a hand on it to support myself as I sat there for a moment. I inhaled the thick air of the summer night. My heart's pace increases.
"Damn," I muttered
, I'm afraid. I walk away as if unaffected. I hated the fact that I am afraid. Why do I care, it's not as if anyone cares. I placed my fingers in the pockets of my sweater not acknowledging the summer air. My chin length dark hair covered my emerald eyes, as that moved back and forth.
I walked home my steps suppressed by the river bumping against the bridge. The streets were illuminated for tomorrow's festival. Every year Silver Lake City has a festival to celebrate its many years without crime or war, but ever since dad's death none of these things seem genuine. Several of the people around here were wearing the countries flag, the bright blue that accompanied a darker sapphire blue. Several places has The United Society flag that were placed against the windows of several buildings. Finally I spot my spacious house that is part of several similar building, all large with different shades of green with a wooden door.
"Just wait till school starts."I thought miserable.
I look under the Welcome mat for a key, I twist the key inside the slit.
Waiting for me was my blonde haired and green eyed mother, I got my hair from dad. Mom's jaw was tight, her eyes glared at me. Slowly I walk towards my room hoping mom would ignore me.
"Late again," my mother said coldly. Making me pause on the way, I continue walking appearing to not have noticed. "I know that it was certainly not work."
I didn't reply., I stood there waiting for mom to shriek at me. My body is tense while my palms felt sweaty.
"Look here. There are three more days until school begins," said my mom, Liz with a voice that sounded hard and temperamental.
"And you're acting like--" Mom said as she sat on the couch placing her hands on her forehead. She then shook her head making her exasperation visible.
"Sit," she said her voice firm.
I sat and, I closed my eyes for a moment nervous. ,My fingers tapped nervously across my thighs, I opened my eyes meeting mom's eyes who looked at me with an intense gaze. She observed my face and then she opened her mouth.
"Sarah, what have you been hiding," she asks softly, placing a hand onto my tapping fingers to make me cease.
"Nothing," I said with a voice just as soft as her's.
"Sarah," she said, her voice sounding disappointed and then she added with a small smile.
"You know you've never been a very good liar."
I inhaled a breath making an expressionless face. "I'm not hiding anything from you mother."
Her shoulders slumped as she observed me her lips twisted appearing as if she didn't believe me. "Just go to bed."
