Max looks down at his wound and then back up at Haye with a malevolent grin that almost reaches the corners of his eyes.

"What's the matter? You look like you've seen a ghost," he comments, cackling at the boy's terrified expression.

Haye lets out a scream and runs. But as soon as he took a step, he coughed, blood dripping out of the corner of his mouth. "You seem to be forgetting, Haye," Max said in a sing-song voice, leaning his face close to the other's ear, "you're only a mortal~"

Before Haye could say a word he gasped and coughed again, more blood bubbling up his throat. He looked down and saw the brunette's hand piercing through his abdomen. Then came the fear; the panic; the racing pulse and pumping blood. It all happened so fast - too fast, in one moment he was calm, and in the next he was taking his last breath.

Max stood above the new corpse, his grin fading away slowly, his nails retracting. "What a shame..." he murmured quietly, looking at Haye. "I hoped you would last longer than that..."

He bent down and held Haye's limp head between his hands, gazing sadly into his dull, brown orbs. "It's a shame, really, we could have been close friends... if you didn't mess with what's mine." he sighed, standing up, his appearance back to what it was previously, walking away as if nothing had ever happened.

Later, Haye was found behind the school, laying in a pool of his own blood and a hole straight through his chest. (Y/n) was terrified and shocked, but he read her expression differently - he saw at as a look of excitement and joy. Yes, ever since they first spoke, Max had been completely under her spell on infatuation.

You see, (Y/n) is a siren, and she'd never tell anyone how she managed to stay on land for so long and not dry out - that was her secret after all. And she had unknowingly captured Maxim Grey in her spell of a twisted, obsessive love.

And, of course, Maxim couldn't have been normal like the millions of humans on the planet. He was an immortal, why was yet another mystery to be solved, but that's for another time.

Now, as he sat in class, watching as (Y/n) cried - to him - tears of joy. He was protecting her from all those terrible people, so of course she was happy, but it was still a bit of a surprise to him when she started tearing up. And he almost let his facade fall, using his hands to block his proud smile from the others in the room.

Just as he was about to go and 'comfort' his beloved, he saw his rival nod towards the door, gesturing that they needed to talk. Maxim scowled and stomped out of the classroom.

"Congratulations," his rival, Seb Golden, glared at Max after dragging him into an empty classroom.

"It was too easy," Maxim scoffed. "He didn't even know how to fight!" he barked out a laugh.

Seb's eye twitched as he had the urge to take down his competitor here and now. "(Y/n) will be mine." he hissed, and shoved past the other teen and out the door.

"Not if I can help it."
