Chapter ONE

~*~

“Zeph get up.” A familiar voice echoed into my ear. “Zepha.” The voice came again but louder than before. I gently mumbled before heading right back to Wonderland, the place of my dreams. Not from Alice in Wonderland but, you know my own perfect little dreamland. Where life was amazing and I could live it freely. “Zephaniah Avalon Jay Hunter, you get your lazy ass of your bed and get the hell up unless you want to be late on the first day of school.”

“Mmm...” I grumbled. “Five more minutes.” I whispered in my husky morning voice. The next think I knew, waist above I was completely soaked in freezing cold water. “What the hell?!” I screamed in surprise, “Why, for hell’s sake did you just do that?”

“Go have a shower; you stink like crap. Then you better get ready if you want any breakfast before school.” He replied, retreating from my room.

I spluttered in shock. “W-what? I have to go to school today? But we only arrived last night!” Why school today? I should have at least today off school considering we only arrived last night. We had to move because of his new job here. I had to leave a lot behind back in England, so much.  But guess it was worth it if Jamie was happy. He deserved it, considering he more or less adopted a stroppy teen like me. He was only 22, while I was 17 going on 18 and I wasn’t comfortable calling him dad as he was young enough to be my brother!

“You bet honey! I start work today as well. Plus your school wanted you to start as soon as possible!” He replied extra cheerfully.

I screamed into my pillow, letting out my frustration. I sighed. It was going to be a long day. “Mmm. Kay, I’m coming. But seriously, no more cold water buckets!  I grumbled at him. All he did was smile cheekily at me, as he dodged my pillow. He left, threatening me of much worse things than cold water. I slowly got up and checked the time. 6:07a.m? Really? Then again, I do have the tendency to take forever in the shower. I walked into the bathroom, stripping as I did so. The shower water had to be just right before I got in, or I would either end up red and burnt or blue and freezing! I hopped in, relishing the feel of hot water against my skin. It helped me relax, water did. Jamie reckons it’s because when my mum was giving birth to me, she was in a hot tub! Which could be true...? I scrubbed myself down, shampooed and conditioned my hair and hosed down my body.

I stepped out of the shower, feeling the cold ceramic tiles beneath my feet immediately. I wrapped a towel around my soaked body. I brushed my unbelievably natural white teeth. I walked into my bedroom. I had to search through a crap load of stuff before finding my clothes. I still had a LOAD of unpacking to get done. It was really warm outside, unlike England. I preferred it warm, which is why moving here, was an advantage!  I slipped on a white plain bra with matching knickers. I looked through all my clothes, trying to find something perfect for the first day of school. Eventually, I decided on a plain light blue tank top, some black lacy tights underneath the black short shorts plus a cropped leather jacket. I blow dried my jet black hair, leaving it straight and really puffy. I grabbed a charm bracelet off my dresser with a necklace that had a blue mustache. That was my favourite pendant because it was given to me by one of my exes who is now my best friend ever! i also put on a pair of military boots for shoes.

I ran down the stairs, jumping the last one. Jamie had done me some toast with cheese, a cup of mocha (for those of you who don’t know it’s coffee and hot chocolate mixed together!), a fruit salad and a chocolate spread pancake. He knew me way too well! We talked about his new job in an office. He was really smart so when he was in secondary school, he skipped a few years and managed to do a business degree at the age of 22! And I was so proud of him. I was extremely lucky to end up with Jamie because some kids that have an emotional past like mine don’t get adopted and stay in care until they turn eighteen. I never thought that a troubled teen like me would ever get someone to take care of me because I have anger issues and am kind of a trouble maker sometimes. Jamie was the employee of one of the most powerful men in the States, Daniel Hertz. He was a billionaire who ran several different businesses specializing in different things.

He set off to work before I left for school and threatened that if he hears I ended up not going to school, there was going to be some major issues. When he set off, I plopped onto the couch for a while, just watching some TV and texting some friends from the UK. Soon, enough, it was time for me to set off as well and Jamie reminded me with a text! Ha! He was a punctuality freak and hated being late. I guess I kind of was as well. But that’s one of my better traits!

I was going to walk because I didn’t have a car yet and I wasn’t too familiar with which bus I would need to take. But I wasn’t familiar with anything here in the States. Unlike Jamie who grew up here and just randomly moved to the UK. Not that I mind because if he never went to England, I would’ve never met him. Jamie had written me a note the night before to tell me which direction to walk to get to my new ‘high school’. Damn he’s so organised!
