Camila has always hated hospitals, what with the stench of sanitising alcohol paired with the sounds of weeping patients and families. She now hates what they mean for her. She's not normal. There's something wrong with her; going to the hospital like this only confirms it. Somehow, being there in the flesh only makes the girl, who is now accustomed to these kinds of things happening via frequent FaceTime or phone calls, all the more nervous.

Not knowing what's about to happen doesn't really make her feel any better, either. Today, the doctors might give her her final diagnosis, or they might send her out with yet another 'promise' of one coming soon.

She takes a deep, shaky breath as she opens the door to Dr Edwards' office and steps inside.

"Ah, Camila! Nice to see you in 3D again!" The ruddy man greets with a small smile. Minuscule dimples form beside Camila's lips as she allows herself the smallest of  smiles, sitting herself down in the upholstered chair which faces the desk.

"Hi, Dr Edwards." She greets sheepishly, eyes darting over the items on his desk before landing on his crossed hands.

"Now, I know you were unsure of what to expect coming in here today, and we are sorry for keeping you in the dark. The last examination we ran definitely helped us out. We know for sure that what you're... struggling with, is entirely mental. There are a few disorders we're leaning towards but... We'll have to run one last test before we can know for sure."

Camila's sinking heart is evident in her slouched shoulder and bite of her lip. Noticing this, Dr Edwards hastily adds, "I'm sorry. I know it's hard, but it's better to know for sure than to live in years of possib-"

"I know, I know. I completely understand." Camila interrupts, making eye contact for a moment before adding quietly, "I just hoped it'd all be over by now, you know?"

"It won't ever be over, Camila." Dr Edwards sighs, though his tone seems sympathetic and reassuring. The girl looks up with a small frown, so he adds, "If this is what we think it is, you'll live with it for your whole life. There might be treatment optio-"

"Wait, might be?" Camila asks after rather rudely interrupting the man. He simply sighs quietly, however, having prepared himself for any reaction, "You know I'm not allergic to anything, right? So I can take pills or... whatever. It'll work for me."

"Yes, but-"

"I have to get treatment! I..." Her voice falls from a loud and rushed one back to her regular tone, not wanting to get caught by anyone listening in from the other side of the door, "I can't live like this."

"We're trying." Dr Edwards replies, grateful that Camila calmed herself before the situation could escalate, "If you have time, we'll do the test now. We won't call you back in until we have a proper diagnosis, and then we can discuss treatments and medication, okay?"

With a dejected nod, Camila allows herself to be subjected to whatever test they need to run this time.

What d'ya think?

I'm working on this book already, though I think I'm going to wait a while before publishing any chapters. This preview is a slight spoiler, but I made sure to make it remain a little ~mysterious~.
