The bell rang for first period and Ruane and Moxy sat next to each other as usual. While in class Ruane tried to actually get some of her work done. Her and Moxy did find time to talk about her plans as well.
"So, do you wanna go or not?" Moxy asked.
"I do." Ruane responded. "But my Dad doesn't want me to go. He says I need to get my grades up, then he'll "maybe" let me go."
"Well if you do get to go then you can expect to see Amber, Kristal, and Vincent there as well. I asked them about it earlier today and they all plan to go."
Amber, Kristal, and Vincent are friends of Ruanes. She's known them for quite a long time, but not as long as she's known Moxy.
"And Vincent only agreed to go after I mentioned you." Moxy teased. "He really likes you."
"I don't know. Maybe he just needed time to think. Besides, Vince is like a brother to me."
"You should tell him that." Moxy said laughing. She paused then asked,"So does that mean you're going to start back babysitting?"
Ruane thought about the question for a moment. "Yeah," she replied. "I guess. I might need to find a new child to look after though. The Phill's might not take me back after all this time."
"The Bern's too." Moxy added.
"Yep, and even if they do, I still might not have enough money by the end of the year. I guess we'll see."
The rest of the day went by like normal, except Ruane actually put effort into her work. After school when she got home Ruane called Mrs. Phill's and asked if she would need any sitters that week. She did the same thing to Mrs. Bern's and got the same response, "I'm sorry but we don't need anyone this week, but if we do we'll let you know."
Still searching for a job Ruane also called a few of the local families and one of them suggest she gave Mr. Walker a call. Mr. Walker is an old man who lives on the same street as Ruane. He doesn't have any children so she was a bit confused on why he'd be a considered job provider. Although confused she still gave him a call as suggested.
Ruane soon found out that Mr. Walker was going on a trip and would be gone for 3 days. He told her that he has been looking for someone to watch his pet cat. At first Ruane was ready to decline the offer, but when she heard the pay rate she reconsidered.
"$40 a day." Ruane repeated. "To watch a cat?"
"Yes," the old man confirmed. " But you must bathe, feed, and walk him everyday. I'll be gone for 3 days, so do you think you can handle that?"
"Yes. No doubt." Ruane considered this easy money. Usually she'd only get paid between $10-15 an hour for about 4-5 hours a week. She only ever babysat when she wanted something, and right now, she wanted something.
Ending the call Ruane said, "I'll see you tomorrow before you leave to pick up", she paused, "Mister Fluffkins, did you say?"
"Yeah that's correct. I'll see you tomorrow then Ruane. Goodbye."
Ruane thought of this as a great start to her weekend. Knowing she could get $120 in 3 days makes her confident that she can get the money she needed before May.
