The Lake of Refuge

It was a starry night. Moonbeam seemed stray on the damp grass. The lake was asleep. Crickets hummed a sad tune. Near the lake was a big old tree and a fine resting place. On the clear water was a reflection of a girl but they hid tears behing them. A gentle breeze swept her hair away from her face, revealing all the agony kept inside her.

That girl was Karana, a girl from the Indian tribe living in the mountain. Her tribe had some customs like tha arranged marriage and life offering. They believe that if someone would break the custom, their god would punish him. Limu, Karana's father, devoted his whole life practicing the customs.
