I become lost to the world when Travis turns on the radio, him driving me home after a long day. It was tremendously late, and I was terrified what I'd come home to."Ash?"
I could hear him saying my name, but I felt trapped in a void, unable to respond or move. My eyes were closed, my head leaning against the window. Hopefully I looked asleep, when in reality I was running through darkness, chasing after a light that never seemed to become closer.
"Ash..?"
My feet stick to the ground and I try to move, instead sinking further into the darkness. I open my mouth to scream, but no sounds come out.
I could feel the car stop, hearing his seat belt slam against the door.
He shakes me and I jolt awake, starring him right in his green eyes.
"Are you okay? You were crying in your sleep." Travis frowns, pushing a strand of my hair behind my ear. It took him saying to notice my cheeks were wet.
"I.. uh.." I looked away from him, reaching up and wiping at my face with my sleeve. I never let him see me like this, so I knew it'd come as a shock for him.
"You're coming home with me." Travis said, moving back into his seat. I look out the window to see he was parked outside my house, no one was home.
"Wait," I state weakly, unbuckling. "Let me go get a few things." I get out, not even realizing he followed me till I was getting my keys out of my pocket.
We walked silently upstairs, and I went into my closet as he sat on my bed.
"Pack for a couple of days." Travis said, "I'm keeping you away from this place for as long as I can."
I leaned against the closet door frame, glad he couldn't see my expression. He has no idea how bad it is. I've kept as much as I could from him.
I grab a duffel bag, throwing some clothes inside. I plac it beside him on my bed, reaching into my beside table, grabbing the money I've kept hidden.
"My dad will go through my shit while I'm gone." I stated quietly, putting that in my bag as well. After grabbing a few more things, I zip the bag up and look at him. He had been watching me the whole time, and he smiles softly when I turn to him."God do you realize how long I've kept my crush on you a secret?" He stands, gently taking my hand.
"I swear to god if it's as long as I've had a crush on you I might actually faint." I laugh nervously, causing him to laugh too.
"Well if you do faint I'll be here to catch you."
"Okay. That was cheesy as fuck." I wasn't much for romance, but I knew I had to be blushing severely.
"Don't you like me cheesy?" He asked in a high pitched voice, causing us both to laugh."Hmm.. Now on a more serious note." He cups my face in his hands, bringing my lips to his. I smile into it, a fire beginning to light in my chest and spread warmth through my cold, dead, body.
He pulls away for a brief moment, only to say,"I love you." He crashes his lips into mine, but he was still gentle, still so passionate.
Did he really understand how fragile I truly was?
"I love you too." I say once we pull apart, causing him to smile. He grabs the duffel bag off my bed, gently taking my hand with his other.
"Come on Ash, I'm not letting you come back here." He states, leading me down the stairs and out the door. Out of the house of abuse, of neglect, of fear.
