The Earth is uninhabitable.
That's all that the people in the research base Auqane know. Auqane, a secret military research base, is underwater. They don't know why or how, just that all government is down and nobody's left responding.
Time skip to 10,000 years later, population has overgrown the capacity and they need to lose people.
They start "population reduction", sending an 18 year old girl to the surface in one of the hundreds of pods they have down there.
Only the Earth is survivable, and her arrival has angered the natives.
