A/N: Totcher (German for daughter)   Blöd (German for stupid)    Papa (German for dad)

And there I sat, ninety-two stories up, my Papa's building getting my ass chewed over something ridiculous.

"Lennox!" he snapped, "Do you not understand the severity of this situation?!"

"No I guess I don't. Why don't you tell me?" I picked at my nails.

"You could face multitudes of charges and our business could be uncovered with all eyes on our family!" He yelled.

"Dude just relax, it's not like I burned the place down," I kicked my feet up on the table.

He slammed his hands on the table making it shake, but I've played his intimidation games before and I'm not moving.

Papa stared at me with his empty eyes, "Tochter you are so blöd! You made an utter mess of  their offices and stole their documents!"

I laughed and rolled my eyes, "Yeah, I'll admit I destroyed their offices, but I never stole their documents. I don't do petty theft."

He stepped back and let out a small laugh, "You are my tochter."

I watched as he paced around the room and checked his watch. Every move my father makes the people quake before him; everyone, considers him a man of power and they shutter at his feet. The scariest aspect about my Papa is that with the snap of his fingers he can take a life.

"Papa," I murmured and he stroked his hand against my head, "He hurt me."

"No tochter, he did not," he took a breath, "We're going to get you out of this. I already have plan set in place."

"What?" I asked standing up.

Papa knows I hate when he sets things up for me, and that I was going to defend myself. I watched him tap on his watch. Suddenly, a very tall man busted through the door. His sudden presence scared me and Papa; which is very rare because Papa is usually the one intimidating.

Papa put a hand on the man's back, "Tochter, this is Atticus."

My eyes started at his feet and took seemingly forever to travel up his toned body to his sharp, dull face. Atticus looked to be just a few years older than me, he had dark brown hair with piercing green eyes, and also looked like he spent all his free time in the gym.

"Atticus," Papa broke my thoughts, "This is my daughter, Lennox. I think you know all about her," Papa left the room to answer a call.

Atticus let a small smirk onto his face, "Ah, Miss Black, the infamous girl who broke into TierTrust because her boyfriend left her," I scowled at him, "Miss Black age 17, blonde, blue-eyed, rebellious girl," He smirked again.

"Well Atticus," I paused and circled around him, "You forgot extremely intelligent, dangerous, and good-looking," I dragged my hand down his jaw, and I now have him wrapped around my finger.

He stiffened as Papa entered the room again. Papa slid his phone into his pocket and looked slyly at me, "Lennox, Atticus is your lawyer for your defense case, and he will also be your new body guard. I know how much you are going to defy me on this, but Atticus will be able to take it all. There will be no getting rid of him. He will be in your presence at all times."

"Well Papa how do you plan on him getting into school?" I asked trying to find a loop hole.

Papa sighed, "You will no longer be going to school. We both know you do not need it anymore, so you be working for the family company."

I felt my jaw drop to the floor, "Papa, no! I don't want to end up like-," I caught myself and went to knockout Atticus, but Papa caught my wrist.

"Tochter, he knows about Toby," Papa gave me a sad look.

I turned to Atticus, "If you ever tell another living soul, I will have you dead!"

I stomped out of the room and into the elevator with tears stinging in my eyes. It is as if every time Toby is mentioned I cannot help, but lose myself in sadness. Toby was brother, my built in best friend, we did everything together. There was no Lennox without Toby, or Toby without Lennox, but now it seems like there is no more left to either of us. Toby is cremated in the ground, and I'm just an empty body waiting to join him. It took me months to just get out of the house after Toby died. I spent everyday in his room hoping he would walk through the door, plop down on the bed and just tell me about his day. When I finally realized he was not coming back; that was the day I was no longer me. I had no happiness, no joy and at the time nothing to live for. That time in my life was dark. After I finally got back on my feet, Papa made me take special training "classes", so what happened to Toby would not happen to me. Those "classes" change a person.

"So, your brother, was he a good person?" Atticus broke the silence.

"Yes," I simply stated.

"I'm sorry for your loss," He said and looked me in the eyes.

"Thanks," I quickly darted my eyes away.

The elevator doors opened and we walked out into my Papa's speakeasy. It was full of guests invited to this evenings dinner party. I grabbed a glass of who-knows-what and downed it. I went back to my personal room and shut the door. I fell down on the couch and Atticus just stood in the corner.

"You can sit down, you know?" I motioned towards the couch.

"Thank you Miss Black," He sat down.

I chuckled, "Call me Lennox, Miss Black is just awkward."

He nodded his head and looked around the room, "This is the richest family I've ever worked for."

"Yeah, our money is a blessing and a curse," I sighed and listened to the people's whispers.

"I've heard about your family," Atticus said in a quiet voice.

I scoffed and sat up, "What have you heard?"

"Your father's business," he paused and thought carefully about his next words, "It's a dangerous business."

"It is, but it pays well," I looked around the room.

"The business killed your brother, didn't it?" He asked.

My eyes kept traveling along the walls and landed on photo of when Toby and I were kids, "I remember the days when Toby and I were kids and we would come down here and play hide and seek. Toby was the best at it, every time we played he would find a spot where I could never find him. It would scare me because I had thought I had lost him, and that if I did not find him, he would disappear forever. The scariest part is, that feeling has stuck with me. When Toby disappeared the feeling I got is something I'll never forget."

Atticus came over and sat next to me, "I want you to know, I will never let you get into danger."

Atticus looked deep into my eyes and for some reason I believed those words. His words gave a strange comfort and I felt completely protected in that moment. His presence was a strange feeling, one I wanted to stay in, but at the same time avoid.
