~ Chapter One ~
Lila was brought as a kid up all properly like everyone else – well, at least for a while. Soon after, at the age of 4 she was put in an orphanage, she did not know why though, she was told to pack her bags with all of her clothes and the next morning was told to leave. An orphanage where everyone hated you, well almost, you know, you always have one friend. Lila’s friend’s name was Izzie. She was neither short nor tall for her age and had over shoulder length, fire red, frizzy hair. She also had the slightest hint of freckles on her upper cheeks. Lila liked her, as in a friend. They seemed to part themselves from the rest. They think they are friends mainly because they both had the same problem, almost everyone hated them.

Many years and months later, the day of Lila’s eleventh birthday was approaching; she knew there would be no celebrations except the small one in her heart. Three days later, on the 29th of March, in the morning, Lila was soon remembering about how her parents abandoned her, they kept her sisters but let her go, these thoughts filled up her mind so she shoved them all to the back, to find herself weeping silently. About an hour passed, and Lila was still weeping and then a faint knock fell onto her door. She tried to quickly hide her tears, not knowing who it would be and she opened her door to find Izzie standing there with her hands hidden behind her back, a strike of hope flickered through her, and then it ended. Lila rapidly snapped herself from the thoughts and decided to break the silence. ‘Oh, what are you doing in here? It’s not a bad thing; it’s just a surprise, that’s all.’ Said Izzie surprised and feeling slightly happier.
‘A little birdy told me it was your birthday, so I found you this, it was mine before, I could not afford a new present. Sorry.’ Izzie said hopingly.
‘Oh my God! Thank you so, so much! Who told you? Asked Lila wanting to know who had this information.
‘Mr Files, down the hall and in the office is where he lives you know!’ Izzie laughed.
‘I didn’t know they still had that file it must be dusty! When did you get it, I swear there is always someone in the office, or a camera!’ said Lila.
‘There is. But no one knows who we are since we always part ourselves.’
‘True that, true.’
‘Now, just open the damn present!’ Izzie laughed. Wrapped up in fine Lilac paper was a small key and locket shaped like a heart, all on a chain. ‘I-is this the necklace you were talking about that your dead mum gave you before she went to hospital in case she never left?’
‘Yeah’ Replied Izzie with a solemn look on her face. Lila rolled her eyes. ‘I can’t take this from you!’
‘Sure you can! By the way, sorry I didn’t make you a card or anything…’ Izzie said.
‘Are you kidding me? First take back the present.’
‘NO WAY! It’s now yours!’
‘Okay, you know what; I’ll keep it if you leave me alone for the next three hours.’
‘OK……W-wait what’s wrong – are you sad about your parents? Oh I really shouldn’t have said that! Oh, me and my big mouth!’ Izzie said covering her mouth with one of her hands, her fingers closed together.
‘No, no it’s ok. If you could go now that would be great.’ Lila suggested.
‘OK, bye, see you later.’ Said Izzie whilst she waving her hand.
‘Bye.’ Lila said with a plain voice.
~ Chapter Two ~
As soon as Izzie left the room Lila put on the necklace to keep her word to Izzie. She thought to herself for a moment. ‘I’m eleven now. What difference does it make? Why don’t I feel anything?’ Lila didn’t get angry with herself though because she knew there was no point. Soon after, her mind brought her back to the same thoughts from earlier, to find herself crying again, the tears rolling down her face. She hid her face under her plain, boring, grey pillow. Soon a patch of the pillow had turned another, darker shade of grey with Lila’s tears.
