*Coryn's POV*

I stood outside, a cool breeze blowing through the night and lifting a few leaves that were scattered on the sidewalk. Looking up at the stars, I rubbed my hands up and down my bare arms in an attempt to warm myself.

The door beside me opened and noises from the karaoke bar spilled out. I could hear Louis on stage singing loudly and off key, the lyrics slurring together. I looked over and saw Ed standing beside me, his hands buried deep in his pockets.

"You know," he mumbled slowly. "You could probably go in there and be brilliant." He smiled at me softly and playfully bumped me with his shoulder.

"I can't sing, Ed," I replied, rolling my eyes.

"You can sing. You just choose not to," he countered, smirking at me.

"I can't sing." I hated when he corrected me. "Just like you can't dance."

He shot me a dirty look. "I dance wonderfully, thank you very much." I rolled my eyes again and sighed. "Shut up! I do!"

I held my hands up in mock-surrender. "Whatever you say, happy feet."

We both went silent for a while. I walked to the curb and sat down, Ed following beside me. The wind had died down and only a few cars were still on the street. It was late and I was exhausted but I had a feeling that there was something he wanted to say so I stayed.

"The stars look great tonight," he said softly.

I looked over and saw him tilting his head back to get a better look at the night's sky. I shifted my gaze upwards and saw the familiar constellations. I gave a small, happy sigh. "Yeah, they do. The sky's clearer tonight that its been in a while."

He gave me a small smile. "You know I love you, right?" I nodded and looked back towards the stars. "And you know I'd do anything for you?"

I looked at him from the corner of my eye. "You know, you're really terrible at the whole stalling thing. Just cut to the chase."

He sighed heavily and rested his head on my shoulder. "I don't want to leave you, Ryn," he mumbled sadly.

I patted his cheek adoringly and smiled down at him. "I'll be fine. I promise."

He sat up quickly and I saw something shift in his features. It took me a moment to make the connection. We had this conversation before. Last year after our parents died, to be exact. I'd told him the same thing then. Only this time I knew he was skeptical.

Leaning towards him, I kissed his cheek. "What will make this easier for you?" I whispered softly. He shrugged his shoulders and looked away avoiding my gaze. "You already have a plan, don't you?" I groaned, slapping him with my clutch and moving away.

He looked at me sheepishly. "Yeah, but you'd never agree to it." I looked at him with raised eyebrows, waiting for him to continue. "I want you to come with me," he mumbled under his breath after a quiet pause. My eyebrows shot up even higher, my mouth forming a slight "o". He turned to look at me shyly. "I told you that you wouldn't agree."

I sat there staring at my best friend in the whole world with wide, incredulous eyes. "You know I can't do that, Ed," I said gently.

He stood up angrily and shoved his hands roughly back into his pockets. "You can't? Or you won't?" he said harshly before turning around and walking back into the bar, leaving me sitting there like an idiot.
