If I were to put humans on a scale, with one side being pure goodness and the other pure evil, and the center a circle of neutrality, they would be placed outside the circle, closer to evil than good. While humanity is certainly more advanced than the rest of the animal kingdom, that does not guarantee that all of us possess a good moral compass. It has been thousands of years since the start of humanity, and yet, many (if not most) humans still cannot seem to accept all others. Had we been able to accept all humans, no matter their race, gender, or sexual orientation, I would have only moved us to the "neutral" mark, seeing as how we are also still cruel to animals and the Earth itself via an extensive use of fossil fuels and deforestation. Unfortunately, us humans continue to wage wars on each other, killing off our own species. We hate on those who are different to us, even when they have done no wrong. We put our trust in people who should never be trusted with power, and don't admit to our mistakes. And yes, there is still some good in the world. Yes, there are people out there who fight for a better tomorrow. But fighting doesn't make the news until someone gets hurt. Humans, as a whole, are not pure evil. But we have strayed from the circle of neutrality, and if we do not stop and think about what we have done and what can be done, the goodness in our world may cease to exist. After all, what is the point of fighting if there is no good to fight for?
