"Cameron needs to go back home."

Our lawyer shook his head. "I can't..." He sighed. "We have to get through this trial, no matter how hard."

"Please." I pleaded. "He hasn't said a word since we came back here and he just stopped crying." I looked at Cameron who was sitting next to me with his head between his knees.

"I understand he is shaken up."

I cut our lawyer off. "Shaken up?" "No this isn't shaken up." I placed my hand on Cameron's back. "He needs to recover, he's in no shape to go back to that courtroom."

"Well, the defense is already being pushy, we need him back."

I stood up and smoothed down my skirt. I took a step forward closing the gap between myself and our lawyer. I looked up into his face. "I said no."

Our lawyer turned to leave. He put his hands on the back of his head and stopped walking. "I need cooperation from you two if we're going to win." He said without turning back around to face me.

The door shut behind him and I sat back down next to Cameron. I rubbed his back with my hand. "Are you ready to go home, love?"

He nodded.

I held out my hand and helped him to his feet. Hand in hand we walked out to a SUV waiting for us.

I sat on the couch in front of the TV when I landed on a news channel.

"Earlier today Cameron Dallas and his co-defendant Kate walked out of the courtroom following a tough testimony by Mr. Dallas."

I clicked the TV off, there was no use watching news anchors talk about what they think happened.

We were constantly surrounded by stories of us, our trial, and the romance that connected us. There were people who found it inappropriate that we were involved with each other and there were people who saw it as our way of coping.

Personally, I saw it as neither.

I stroked Cameron's hair gently. He'd been trying to grow it out recently and it was getting long enough for me to braid little sections of it. I'd do that sometimes when he'd fall asleep with his head in my lap.

We still hadn't really talked about what happened at the courthouse earlier today. I wanted to and tried to ask him about when we first got home but he avoided my questions.

So we were here, on the couch, avoiding our problems.

He had a beauty about him when he slept. His long brown lashes rested gently on his face. He was at peace. It was moments like these that made me regret all of those days I spent giving up on him, on us. It made me hate those days I tried to push him away.

I bent over a planted a light kiss on his cheek. I hope we make it through this ok. Deep down inside I want forever with him but the both of us are wrecks right now.

They say if you can get through a hard time together your relationship will last, but I'd say this is a harder time then most experience.

I picked the remote back up and turned the TV back on.

"You know I really don't know." The anchor paused. "I think that if Cameron can get his marriage to Hannah annulled there's a strong possibility that he will marry Kate."

I scoffed. "Marriage?"

I looked down at Cameron. "Let me guess they're going to want to televise that too, I'm sure." I whispered.

"I mean, we've all seen the ring on Kate's finger." The second anchor smiled. "Who knows what'll happen once this trial's over."

"Who knows what'll happen when this trial's over." I repeated quietly.

A single tear rolled down my cheek as I stroked Cameron's brown hair. How we were going to get through the trial, I wasn't sure.

However, I was sure that we both needed to be very honest about what we were feeling. We were both grappling with trauma and sometimes that can be forgotten in the swirling mess of our highly publicized trial.

Carefully I slid his head off of my lap. I walked over to the chair next to the couch and picked up a crocheted blanket. I placed it gently on him and planted one final kiss on his head.

With one last glance at the couch I closed the bedroom door. I knew tomorrow would be a hard morning, but all I could do was hope that we would be able to make it through another day of the trial.
