Apartment 24

one

I woke up to darkness, only darkness and the negative thoughts of dying from hypothermia. My parents weren’t coming to get me I knew that for a fact, they probably feel up with me by now. I honestly don’t blame them. There was only one person that I trust now, the one person that I can always turn for help…

“Miss?” I looked up to see the police officer standing next to my best friend Alli. Both relief and guilt fluttered in my stomach.

“Do you know her?” the officer asked Alli.

“Y-yes, sir she’s my sister.”

“Okay.”

The officer took a set of keys from his belt holder and unlocked the cell door; Alli didn’t dare make eye contact with me.

“Alright missy, I’ve seen you here too many times already. Life is getting too rough for young criminals like you to be wondering around”.

I nodded, although I wasn’t listening clearly. My eyes were glued to Alli, who was staring desperately at the door. She definitely wanted to get out of here as badly as I did.

“Are you listening, missy?”

“Yes sir, I completely understand. You will never see me again.”

As if on cue, Alli walked out the door leaving me behind. I quickly ran after her, no matter how much I regretted it.

“Alli, I can’t begin to tell you how sorry I am!”

Alli scoffed. “Sorry? You think an apology is going to make things better? Look Brie, I’m done okay. I’m done lying for you, I’m done telling your parents the things that you do aren’t your fault, and I’m absolutely done saving your sorry ass from trouble.”

“But Alli please let me explain--.”

“Explain what?!” She fumed. “You know last year, I would have been lucky to have a friend as kinds as you, but now underneath that all I see is a demon”.

Tears threaten to spill from my eyes, but if there’s one thing I hate its showing people I’m weak. I silently followed Alli to her new Lexus car; she got it last month for her seventeenth birthday. And of course, I wasn’t there to celebrate it with hey. Only god knows where I was that day…

---6:44 PM---

I lay on my bed, staring absently at my phone hoping to receive a text from my parents. Stupidity apparently got the best of me.

“Brie, you ok?” Billy asked me, Billy was Alli’s ex-boyfriend. He’s like nerdy, hot- guy. I swore to myself that I wouldn’t like him in that was; Alli would be so uncomfortable with us together. Anyways, because Billy’s the only person that’s not pissed off at me, I felt like talking to him.

“I wish I could say I’m okay, but I’m not.” I whispered

“Why don’t you talk to me about it?” He asked flipping his gorgeous brown hair out of his eyes.

“You wouldn’t understand and anyways it’s me and Alli’s problem.”

“I’m sure, I will understand once you tell me” he said with a grin. With that gorgeous smile of his, I knew that I couldn’t shut my mouth, so I laid back and let my mind speak.

“I got in trouble for trespassing and I guess Alli got tired of me so we started arguing-“I stopped.

“Well if you wanted to draw, then you could of on paper” Billy added trying to be funny.
