"You've earned yourself a nice rest"

I guess I really shouldn't complain. I mean, plenty of other pokemon have it way worse. I had a nice enough kid for a master. Sure, he doesn't know the first thing about pokemon moves or types, and as far as I can tell he doesn't even know secondary types exist. But still, he means well.

Some pokemon have abusive or negligent masters. Some pokemon have masters who demand that they win every time. Some pokemon don't get to eat regularly. So, really, honestly, I shouldn't feel so annoyed.

But still, every time, when I lose and sometimes when I win, right after I hear that horrible word return, and he looks down at his pokeball with me inside, why does he have to say it?

"You've earned yourself a nice rest"

Since when is rest the ultimate thing in my world? What about say, a little time outside the ball? Maybe some real food instead of that pokecrap he buys cheap by the ten pound bag. That stuff tastes like cardboard when it's fresh, and it takes a long time to finish off that much stuff. Now, I can understand it being said the first time. And the second, and the third and the tenth. He's telling me I don't have to battle for a while. But now, having heard it a hundred, a thousand, a million times, it makes me want to burst out of that stupid ball and, though I may have already fought until I collapsed, slam him around until he at least acknowledges that I didn't earn a stupid little rest.

Moltres, how can that stupid creature just say it every single time? I earned a rest? I have to fight 'til I faint for the right to REST? What do I have to do for the right to eat, beat a gym leader?

I think the worse part about it is the sympathy, the kindness and compassion in his voice every time. Isn't he nice? He's giving me a little time inside a cramped cage to heal without having to fight until I'm able to stand up again. How incredibly considerate of the boy. Or it would be if the reason I was in there half-dead wasn't that I had just nearly killed myself for him.

What do I get out of battling? I get to rest. Wow, that is soooo motivating. I don't get even halfway decent food, I don't get to stand in the sun for a few seconds, I get to rest.

The stupid kid's hubris is indescribable.
