Awaken by Jennifer, she sounded terrified. A thunderstorm was coming in at 5 in the morning. School had called and said it was cancelled because it was flooded. The power was out. Which wasn't good.
Aren't the back up generators supposed to be working or is the storm too strong and knocked them out?

Jennifer stormed into my arms, sobbing and Bruno came in as well and laid on the bed. "I'm so scared, the storm came out of nowhere. It's been raining like this since 3 in the morning. I'm so scared."
Jesus Christ and I slept through this?

I wrapped my arms around her and told her she was going to be okay and that nothing would hurt her. Grabbing my flashlight I went downstairs to look for the generator switch to see if it was even on or not. Luckily it wasn't so I turned it on. We headed back to the living room and turned on the tv.
Wait, was Jennifer wrapped in my arms this whole time?
HOLY FUCK IT WAS.

I turned on the tv and got the weather channel or something.
"HURRICANE KYLEE IS MAKING IT'S WAY TO FLORIDA AS WE SPEAK AS A POWERFUL CATEGORY 2 ALMOST A CATEGORY 3" Showing the map of the hurricane, it was only beginning. the storm had just entered and it's going in slowly. About 12 miles per hour.
School was closed just for flooding? They expect us to go in this weather?
Well there goes homecoming.

A giant rumble of thunder shook the house and Jennifer clung into my arms. Bruno whined and I petted his head to sooth him.

"I'm so scared Taylor.." She sounded so panicked. Helpless

"It's okay," I said tiredly. "It's just a storm. Just relax. I'm right here" I said tiredly. I laid my head in her shoulder not to comfort her, but to fall asleep. To my surprise she kissed my forehead.

"I'm glad you are."
Okay, just shush and let me sleep.

I closed my eyes and Jennifer surfed through the channels for something to watch. Unfortunately nothing good is on a 5 in the morning. Just Cartoons. She finally stuck to a Tom & Jerry Marathon they were giving. I was barely awake. Leaning on her while holding her in my arms, she did the same. My cat came in and cuddled with Bruno. I started to doze off.

******

I woke up at 8 and I was laying down on the couch. Tom & Jerry was still on and It was still looked dark outside. Almost like if nothing changed.
Where's Jennifer?

Standing up and looking around she was in the kitchen looking for something to eat. I walked toward the kitchen. "There's some chocolate chip waffles in the back if you want some. I can make hashbrowns and bacon." She jumped to me. "Sorry I didn't mean to scare you" I said innocently.

"It's okay, storms always bring the scares out of me. You know, bad memories" she said confidently, as if nothing scared her.
I wanted to hear more.

"That sounds good, I didn't know you cooked"

a flashback came to me.

My mom lived in El Salvador, a poor country in Central America. My mom always had to feed herself since her parents took care of the rest of the family since she was the oldest. She got taught how to cook, clean, and about everything else a good house wife should know. She worked and studied Administration for Business and something else. When she went to Florida she met my dad, got a job at Juicy Couture, got her citizenship, married and my brother, my sister and me. A few years into it my dad and I were close. Teaching me everything about my mechanics, "he was a drunk" my mom would tell me. Which he was. He'd argue with my mom when she came home late from work. That's when my sister got out the house. She moved in with her boyfriend. It tore our family apart. My mom started to get deep in her work since she kept getting promotions. That's when my brother got arrested and my dad left the house. My mom would cry. It would hurt me seeing her in such pain. I started taking care of her since she was so depressed. That's when she started teaching me how to cook. She taught me the basics and some of her family recipes. That's how I learned how to cook. My mom taught me. She started teaching me more until she got better. Then she got promoted to the owner of the company and she's as happy as ever.

I shook my head. "Yeah, I'm not that useless" I said. "If I really wanted to I could be a house wife"
Maybe your house wife.

"Get cooking, I'm starving" she wrapped her arms around my waist then kissed my cheek.

After teaching her how to cook, we sat down to eat. My pets' bowls were filled and they began to eat as well. Thunder rumbled again. The rain was still falling hard on the house. But I didn't pay much attention to it.

"You know Taylor, I never asked you this, but tell me about yourself"

I bit down on the hashbrowns and looked at her curiously. No one really cared about me. What do I say?

As my mind went blank I finally came up with "What do you want to know?"

"The basics. How old you- Don't answer that. Your favorite color, food, animal, and hobby. You know, simple stuff"

I gave her the answers plain and simple. Purple, Chinese, cats, and engineering or music.

"Interesting" she said.

"What about you?"

"hmm" she thought. "I don't know, usually no one cares. My favorite color is green, I like anything I can put in my mouth that taste good, I like all animals, and I don't know. Acting seems to be a part of me that I liked."

"Acting? Why don't you take drama club? I heard they're fantastic."

"Yeah, I will hopefully be in there next semester. I want to be an actress. One of the universities I want to go to is willing to give me a scholarship if I keep up my grades and get into Drama. I just hope I can pull it off." Her voice of concern and excitement was starting to show. She was biting her cheek then proceeded to eat her food.

I put my hand on hers, looking into her now green-blue eyes I said "You'll do great. They'll be stupid to let down a girl like yourself." she smiled.

"Thanks, usually someone tells me "Well good luck" or you know, stuff to bring down my confidence. That lifts me up. I'm glad I can hear that. Especially from you" her hands met mine. She gave me a look of thanks-I'm-glad-you-care. I smiled back at her finishing my plate and talking about other nonsense that we can talk about while the storm continued to pour on the house.
