It was about 9:30 by the time we got back home. I didn't understand why Emery couldn't go shopping with her friends. They were probably more fun than me.

My stomach growled, but I ignored it. I was to tired to do anything after getting up early. I clambered up the grand stairs into my large bedroom and slept.

It was 12 in the afternoon, and the castle was busy. Mother was signing papers and ordering things for the upcoming ball while Father was telling the kitchen staff what to make. Idiot Emery was talking to one of her idiot friends, which meant it was the perfect chance to go to the village while everyone was distracted.

I grabbed my jacket and raced out the door, closing it quickly before anyone could see.

I had to walk to the village, but I honestly didn't mind. I liked it, and it was better than sitting in a cramped, suffocating car or limo.

The village wasn't very crowded. The sweet scent of the bakery filled the air, and the only noise was the chatter of some people and the sound of footsteps against the roads. Suddenly, I was knocked backwards. I looked up to see what had caused my fall... and there he was.
