It has been five months since I moved to Seoul, Korea. It has been five days since my apartment burnt down. I've been living on the streets. As a foreigner and a homeless girl, the looks I get everyday make me shudder in embarrassment. Bad luck and misfortune follows me wherever I go, even if I move to the other side of the world.
"Hey you, foreigner girl" a nicely dressed, middle aged man in a mask stands in front of me. "Why are you sitting here in the alley like this?"
"I am homeless, sir." I say emotionless. Without another word he holds out his hand to me. I hesitate to grab it *what's the worst that could happen?* my subconscious whispers to me. *you've already hit rock bottom, you live in an alley now* I grab his hand and he pulls me up to stand with him. My head only reaching his chest, I didn't realize how tall the man was.
"Would you like to come with me?" His voice was soft and remorseful. He pitted me. I nob my head slowly, unsure of what I was getting myself into. "Good, my name is Do Jung Soo. I want you to work for me"
"I am Aubrey Young, work for you how?" He ignores my question and starts walking.
"Follow me" I grab my things and catch up to him. I look in front of us to see a really nice black car, with the windows were slightly tinted. Jung Soo opens the backdoor for me and closes it once I enter. The leather seats were heated and comforting. It felt strange against my cold skin. Jung soo got in the driver seat and pulled off.
I sat in the seat across from his and stared out the window. It seemed to be about twenty minutes before we stopped in front of this tall building. The man got out of the front seat and came to open my door. I wasn't used to this kinda of treatment. I walked slowly behind him as he walked me into the big house. A woman standing by the door greeted him.
"Soo-ah, you're home" she bowed. She was an older woman, possibly late 50's. Jung Soo gave her a small grin then turned around to face me.
"This is Aubrey Young, get her cleaned and dressed while I inform the boys." The woman nodded. Jung Soo then disappeared into another room. I look to the woman who was now gesturing for me to follow her up stairs. Something Jung Soo said was replying in my head. The Boys? Who was he talking about.
The woman opens a door to a large, white bathroom. The need for both a shower and bathtub is confusing to me. The woman then walks up to the bathtub and turns the water on, then turns to me. "Take off your clothes" she commands. I hesitantly put my bag down and do as told. I was more afraid of what might happen to me if I don't obey then getting naked in front of an old woman. Thankfully she turns around.
Once the tub was full, the woman then tells me to get in. The hot water stings for a bit before becoming relaxing and consuming. She then grabs a loofah and starts to scrub my back. I don't move, I just sit in the water thinking about what I've gotten myself into.
"I want you to work for me"
Jung Soo's words ring in my ear.
"Lay down, I need to wash your hair" the woman's words take me out of my thoughts. After she washes my entire body, she tells me to wait and relax in the tub for a minute. She then leaves me by myself. She returns a few moments later with a peach colored towel and tells me to get out of the tub.
We walk out of the bathroom into another room right next to it. The room was white and plain. The canopy bed was white and black with sheer curtains around it. On the bed laid a long sleeved dark blue dress, a pair of black lace panties and a matching bra.
"This will be your room" the woman informs me."My-my room?" I stutter.
"Yes, this is yours Aubrey, you stay here when you are not needed" I scan the room more. A large flat tv was mounted on the wall, hovering above a long, ash colored dresser. The closest was a walk-in, already filled with clothes.
"I'll leave you to dress yourself, I'll be on the other side of this door if you need anything. Come out when you are done, the boys are waiting to meet you downstairs"
"Uh-thank you, ma'am"
"You may call me Eun Ae" she grins and leaves me alone once more. I walk to the bed and pick up the dress, holding it up to see it entirely. It's a beautiful dress, nothing like i've ever owned before. I put on the bra and panties, surprise they fit me so well. I caught a glimpse of myself in the full length mirror. My ribs almost visible above my skin. How did I survive so long without eating? My body looked strange. My wide hips and large butt stuck out. I looked like a Kardashian. My thoughts made me chuckle.
I pick up the dress again and slipped myself into it. It zipped in the back, but I couldn't zip it myself. I slightly tap on the door. "Eun Ae?" I call for the woman.
"Yes dear?" She opens the door. "Oh, should have known you'd need help with that" she walked in and zipped up the dress immediately. She then tells me to sit in a chair in front of a vanity mirror. She brushes my long black hair into a ponytail that goes past my shoulders. She then wraps my ponytail into a cute ballerina bun. The feeling was strange, motherly. I wouldn't understand how that actually feels, I lost my mother before I could even talk.
Lorali Cole, the most beautiful women in Phoenix... 'was' was the most beautiful women in Phoenix. The story of Lorali was well known in there, born and raised in Bisbee. Fell in love with Nathaniel J. Young, the lead singer of some little band only the town has heard of. Got married at 21, had a son named Junior after five years, then three years later had a daughter named Aubrey. By the time Aubrey was two and Junior was five, Lorali Breylyn Young died in her sleep. Her heart stop, she was only 31, and her heart stopped. After that, widower Nathan young took his two children and moved to Long Beach, California. Nathan Young passed away at the age of 48 from a stroke.
"Are you ready to meet the boys?" She asks me, placing both her fragile hands on my shoulders. My heart started to slow down. This is the third time I've heard that. I wasn't sure who these people were, and why they wanted to meet me, why I had to put on this dress for them, or what they are going to do with me.
