The crack of the lightning, so loud and powerful it sound as if it was splitting the ground. Waves hit against the cliff, slowly becoming higher and higher with each hit. A city sat on top of the cliff with a panicking population inside. This was Julani, a Water Elf colony, south-west of the Armir Republic. A Water Elf sat in a tower watching the chaos, trying to think of a solution.
"Lord Merlic! Lord Merlic!" Another Water Elf ran through the door, nearly taking it off it's hinges. "We found an old passage way the leads to a coastal cavern. If we bring the life boats there, we could sail away on relatively calm seas!" The young elf stared at Merlic.
There was a pause until Merlic responded, "Lead the people, Torm. They've lost their faith in me." Merlin stood up and stared out a window. "Let Valcora have mercy on you."
Before Torm could argue, Merlic threw up a hand and he knew there was no bringing Merlic along. Torm turned around and ran down to the town center and told the citizens about the plan. The group follow as the waves started to splash against the city walls. The people ran down the passage, being careful not to slip on the old stone. Lightning sliced into the tower where Merlic resided, spraying stone and wood into the sky. The tower collapsed onto the streets causing a blockage between the people. Some tried to climb over, but it was to wet to keep your grip on the stones. Torm ran over to the wreckage looking to see how he could help. Over the thunder and waves, he heard a faint crying. Torm hastily cleared the stones and found a dead elf mother, but with a lively infant. Torm grabbed the child just as waves started to come over the walls. He ran as quickly as he could towards the passage and into the cavern. The last boats were about to go, until he boarded one with the child. He held the infant close as water started to rush through the passage. The boats sailed out of the cavern and I to the sea, toward salvation.
