I walk further into school property, watching all the students go crazy. I'm a little early, so they haven't let anyone in yet.
There are too many people here.
This isn't good for my health. Urg.
Looking around cluelessly for any friends I have, I see two small figures running towards me. Friends?"Mika!"
One of the small figures run towards me, her one hand holding her backpack strap, the other one waving around stupidly in the air at me.
The other figure is Naruto-running towards me at what it looks like, full speed.
"MIIIIIKA!" She jumps on me, rocking back and forth on her feet excitedly.
"Hey, Christina! I missed you!" I hug her back, snuggling into her long, black fruity-smelling hair I've always loved.
"Mika! What about me?! You meanie!"
"No! Mel! Give me a hug you loser!" I apologize and chuckle quietly to myself, and hug her tightly.
"I haven't seen you guys all summer, Jesus. How have you guys been?" I ask, separating myself from Mel.
"Oh my gosh, I saw this hot-ass guy this summer, he's just-oh my god-oh my god-just-wow." Mel explains, her hand expressions as strong as usual.
"Oh, um, okay...did you guys talk?"
"Oh man! I wish. But no, I just saw him walking one day. He's probably like a hundred years older than me though."
"One-hundred?"
"Oh my god, jokes, jokes...of course not. Maybe like a few years older...? I don't know!"
"Anyways, Christina, how about you?"
I ask my sane friend, hoping for a normal answer this time.
"MIKA, I AM AN ASIAN. I WAS LITERALLY WORKING ALL SUMMER."
She widens her eyes as she speaks and grabs my shoulders, my eyebrows raising in response.
"Jeez, I'm sorry...not one of you had a normal summer?"
"Saw that hot guy, remember?"
"I meant like...did you go anywhere?"
I sigh to myself as I spot students walking inside the school, flowing through the doors like water.
"Oh! Looks like we're heading in now!" Christina states, as I turn on my heel, walking forward as Melanie and Christina follow, Christina pacing up to me.
"How about you?" She asks.
"Hm?"
"I mean, did you do anything? Have you..." she continues quietly,
"Forget ya mans yet?"
"What? Oh, right..."
"So yes?"
"I mean, no, but it's okay."
We continue to walk forward, trying to avoid the awkward silence.
"Mika! You're 14!" Mel shouts at me.
"Yes..." I look at her in confusion wondering what she wants.
"You didn't invite us to your birthday!"
"Huh? I didn't have one!"
"What do you mean you didn't have one? Everyone has a birthday you loser!" She jokingly says to me, playfully slapping my arm.
"No, as in, I didn't have a party, you dummy."
"Oh. We could've come over! Or...something."
"Eh."
As we get closer to the school doors, randomly talking about my birthday and teasing Mel and the fact that she's younger than us, we spot some grumpy looking teachers pretending to be happy to greet us. I'm scared already. They look like they're gonna kill us the second we step in their classrooms.
"Hey," Christina whispers,
"The teachers don't look so nice, huh."
I give her a nod in response.
"If I get a teacher who keeps saying oral, I'm gonna lose it."
"Cleanse your mind you unholy child, buy a bible!" I tell her. Why are all my friends so dirty minded?
Stressed thoughts fill my mind as I squeeze through the door, finally getting a first glance at high school, and I think to myself, I'm gonna get lost.
