“I love you!, take care always”, a loud message from a lover as I mount to a jeepney to go home. It was very relaxing, knowing that somebody is concerned about you, but how will things go right is every person around you is against your relationship?

I was an active high school student at a not so popular high school in Marikina, only 500+ students of population and only have 2 buildings and a quadrangle with a stage where all the students gather every morning. Everybody knows everyone, nobody is an outcast every one is a member of the family. I was one of the artists of the school, and because of the small spaces inside the school we had our practices on stage where everybody can see.

February came, the month of hearts. One week, before the Valentine’s Day I and my boyfriend had a problem and sadly we didn’t had the chance to talk it over because of the hectic schedule. A night before the day, we broke up but life has to go on, I woke up early in the morning and still came to school in a good mood. It was a day before the junior and senior’s prom and I was assigned to lead the practices for the said event. During the break time I was called to report at the faculty room about the practices. Before I go out of the faculty room, I was paged to go to the quadrangle immediately. I was in a hurry to know what was the problem but when I get out of the room a first year student handed a red rose, every five steps that I make a first year student hands a red rose, until I arrived at the center of the quadrangle, all the students who handed a rose stayed around me and formed a big heart leaving me at the center then and opening slowly shows in front of me, a guy holding a bouquet of white roses. I was very flattered when he kneels in front of me and gives the roses. Everybody saw what happened. All of a sudden I was the headline inside the school.

He was one of the most notorious student in the school,  but he changed because he wanted me to like him. He was always there to listen to me, he never left me even I had to go home late from school. He was always there that is why it became easy for me to move on from the past. All the teacher’s was aware of what was happening inside the school, they were always telling me to stop and move away from him, but I refuse to obey.

Summer has begun; we didn’t have the chance to see each other every day. We started to became cold to one another until one night I saw him with another girl, until that day I have made up my mind we were not made for each other, he was just like those other guys, then I moved on. After a week, he texted me if we could see each other again, I didn’t refuse to the favor and gave him the chance to explain.

Sitting under a mango tree at the river park he speaks about the gigs he had during the break. But none of those stories answered the question, who was the girl he was with until the skies turned a little dark. It was about to rain when he told me he had an affair with another girl, he said he never wanted to do it but he was under the influence of alcohol and he didn’t know what he was doing anymore. He even told me that he was thinking of me all the time. I didn’t felt anything from what he has said even a single spark for our relationship. He keeps on asking me if I still love him, but no answer was given.

The rain started to pour and he still didn’t want to stand up from where we were sitting, the rain poured harder and the both of us are wet, I left him then he called me. When I glanced back to him he was kneeling, wet and seeking for forgiveness. I know I still like him but it was too late, I went back to him and helped him to stand up. Still the rain is pouring and we are still standing in the middle of the park, he held me in his arms, crying and still seeking for forgiveness, still no answer was given then the last kiss was given. Under the rain, both of us in the middle of the park, soaking wet. I can hear him sobbing as his lips touches mine, but still I didn’t feel any spark. I pushed him away, and said I’m sorry and then I walked away. Before I even get too far he shouted “I love you! Take care always!”. Then I didn’t even try to glance back and just walked straight ahead, soaking wet, hoping that the both of us could find the right person who could love us wholeheartedly.
