Friends with Beneficiary

"Travis, are you serious? Pang ilang babae na ba yan na pina iyak mo this week? What a coldhearted guy."

Lintaya ko habang nag lalakad palibot sa kanyang opisina

"They're simply not my flavor darling. At isa pa, san ko sila isisingit sa schedule ko? I have meetings from the moment I step in the office, till dawn. Plus, dinner date with you, which technically is a must." He replied.

"And what do you mean by that?" I asked suspiciously.

"Let's just say na there's one time we missed a dinner and you end up getting drunk and running back to your stupid ex." Travis said while walking towards me.

I glared at him, iniinis na naman ako neto.

"You know what, sayang ka eh. Medyo gwapo ka naman, mayaman, matangkad at matalino. Pero wala kang jowa. Buti pa yung driver namin meron." I laughed  and made face to him.

"Hindi medyo, gwapo talaga ako. At isa pa, pagod na akong mag laro. I mean, to bed girls is no longer my passion. Tapos na ako sa ganyan." Sagot naman nya.

"You know what? Ako din. I'm so fed up with the word commitment. Kase at the end of the day, magloloko at magloloko pa din ang mga lalaki."

I said while looking at the view of his office. He didn't answer, though I heard a light laugh but when I turned around to look at him, he gave me that serious face.

Our ritual is to get dinner every friday night. Regardless of how busy and tired we are. Like he said, it's a must.

I came from a toxic relationship. My ex, Dax, which is his former friend dumped me without any word. I was left hanging. After all the cheating and emotional abuse, he just went abroad, got married and now with a 3-month old baby. Alam ko lahat ng nangyayari sa buhay nya not because I'm stalking him, it is being shared to me by his wife. I don't know kung iniinis ba ako or gusto lang ipamukha sa akin na talunan ako.

Travis is always there to remind me that I am not and never a loser. He ended his friendship with Dax because of what happened.  Di ko naman hiniling sa kanya yun, but stubborn as hell, ginawa nya pa rin. He pulled out Dax's share sa business nila. According to him, it's the least he could do to protect me. I thank him for doing things that he shouldn't be doing just to protect and help me.

We've been friends for as long as I can remember, di pa yata ako nag lalakad magkasama na kami. Lahat ng significant experiences ko sa life kasama sya, kaya malamang sa mga bagay na gaya ng heart breaks ay alam nya at talagang mangingialam sya. He never liked Dax for me, he knows him so well and I never listened to him when he warned me about him.

" I know that face honey. If you're, again, thinking about him I will seriously throw out of that glass window." Pointing out the glass window showing the view of Davao.

"Travis, gutom lang ako kaya halika na." I picked up my bag and hugged him from behind.

"Let's go" I whispered behind him. He slowly turned around to face me.

"Alright, Let's go." He placed his hand on the small portion of my back and guided me towards the door.
