The world was cold, dark, and dangerous. The concrete forest spread as far as the eye can see, dead and silent in the day but bustling with treacherous energy by night. The buildings were dilapidated and crumbling, steel structures showing from most. The streets were always guarded by droids that were frequently destroyed by Crawlers, what people living in the underground society called the vagabonds who lived in the city above them. They killed, stole, traded in the black market, starved, and eventually died in the grime that was their world. After the city became too corrupt for people too safely live in, the underground society was created. It was a network, a maze, of rooms, hallways, work spaces, dining halls, recreation and exercise complexes, and kitchens. This was their world. This is all they had ever known. And President Melchor planned to keep it that way.
