VeM chapter 2:

It's my birthday tomorrow. You know what that means, my secret is going to come out. I'm going to be the biggest failure the world has ever seen I thought to myself as I stood in front of a floor length mirror rimmed with an intricately painted gold frame, watching as 2 of the villages finest tailors expertly sewed on jewel after sequin after diamond with the precision only an expert would have. My mother had insisted on getting me a new hand made dress 'we wouldn't want you to have the same dress as someone else now would we?' she stated earlier this morning as if it were the worst thing that could possibly happen to me. My dress was a beautiful floor length midnight blue off shoulder gown. The crystal studs and diamonds started at the bottom and flowed the whole way up making it look like I was floating on a cloud at night. After the tailor, a slightly greying man that looked older and wiser than his years stood up he smiled looking over his masterpiece. "I think were all done m'lady, what do you think?" he asked smiling to himself. "it's really beautiful" I replied, smiling myself. "yes, yes it's it's fabulous!" my mother gushed, looking between me and the dress with a twinkle in her eye that I hadn't seen since before my brother died. Seeing her face light up like that gave me hope, maybe all wasn't lost, maybe when she saw how happy my mate and I would make each other it might bring some joy back to her life and my fathers...yeah right! Slowly and carefully I was unlaced out of my gown and left to get dressed, looking at myself in the mirror, not being big headed or anything but I wasn't exactly bad looking, I'm tall around 5 foot 8", curves in all the right places but not fat. I have a long flowing head of brunette hair and deep brown eyes. Let's just hope my mate will show tonight. Slipping my small White flats back on again I returned to the large room where my mother was talking animatedly to the tailor about the ball tomorrow. Rolling my eyes I excused myself to go home, I couldn't listen to anymore crap about tomorrow. Walking in the door of the castle I was hit by a tidal wave of tingles, making me shake violently. "what the hell was that?" I pondered to myself as I continued up the staircase. My question was answered when I looked up. I was met by those sparkling green eyes that always seemed to make me tingle with excitement, Rhydian. "m'lady" he said his eyes still locked on mine. I was so lost in his eyes I hadn't realised he'd said anything, I just couldn't drag my eyes from his it was like they were able to look deep into my soul. "m'lady? Are you ok?" he asked, his deep gravely voice shaking me from my trance. "ohh...er...yeah good afternoon Rhydian" I mumbled, feeling the blush rise up my face I hurried on down the hall to my room. God that was embarrassing! Entering my room I flopped down on my bed face first with a huff, I just want tomorrow to come so I can get it over and done with as quickly as possible!

"m'lady" "wake up m'lady today's the day" Feena chirped, throwing my curtains open letting the bright morning light flood in making me squeeze my eyes closed. "ugh... Good morning" I grumbled from under my covers. I was never a morning person, today was no exception. "rise and shine m'lady, it's time for breakfast!" Feena beamed, throwing back my covers making me roll up into a ball on an effort to stay warm. I had taken ages to get to sleep last night, I couldn't get Rhydian's green eyes out of my head. By the time I had gotten to sleep it was already early morning. Damn that boy and those incredible eyes of his! Sluggishly I crawled out of bed shrugging on my silk dressing gown and sliding my feet into my wool slippers. "ok, ok I'm up, I'm up" I mumbled to Feena attempting to keep both my eyes open at the same time. "your parents have called for you to have breakfast with them on your birthday m'lady" chirped Feena. Great, as if today wasnt going to be bad enough. Sighing I made my way down the staircase towards the dining room ignoring the hustle and bustle of the house maids preparing for the grand ball In my honour tonight. "Aphrodite!" my mother chirped, holding out her arms to wrap me in a hug. "morning mother" I beamed, taking my seat at our large table. Looking up from my fruit salad I locked eyes with my father, who I'd noticed had made no attempt to acknowledge my existence since I entered the room. I know I should have looked away as a sign of respect but something inside me stirred and I just couldn't. It was like a voice deep inside me telling me not to back down, that he could not treat me like this and I should not stand for it either. My eyes still locked on his, I saw understanding cross his face then maybe even pride? I couldn't be sure as his face turned back to the cold emotionless stone I was used to before he averted his gaze. The voice now felt as if it had grown legs and was happy dancing inside my head, all I wanted to do was fist pump the air while dancing in circles and I had no idea why.
