As Seb's finger lifted from the paper white piano key, Mia felt her breath hitch in her throat.
"Can we go now?" she asked her husband.
"Yeah. Sure," he replied. Mia smiled. It was more of a grimace. She just needed to leave.
It had nothing to do with the song, or the way Seb had played it - she had always loved the way he played it. No, it was more Seb himself. Their time together had been one huge bonfire of a relationship: huge, powerful, and never-ending - if you gave it enough fuel. But their fuel had seemingly run out, hence why they lived in separate houses, with separate fun and separate lives. Seb had moved on. But Mia secretly hadn't. She still had a picture of him tucked in her wallet. She still remembered the lyrics to that song he would never stop singing. Still remembered every painful word of their argument. She still had dreams about him, where she was the damsel in distress and he was her knight in shining armour and saved her from the evil dragon guarding her castle (her husband).
No, Mia had never really moved on.
And she knew it.
She was still just as completely, madly in love with him as she was seven years before. Nothing had changed. He just had no clue.
Mia turned and walked towards the back of the club, towards the sign she had paused at what felt like decades before. She spun around, locking eyes with the once man of her dreams for the last time, before...
But what if he still could be? What if they could rebuild their relationship. Mia could smile again and Sebastian could be properly happy for the first time in forever. She could see it in his eyes when he looked at her- the desperate longing for love and attention. She could be the one to give it to him. All that he'd been missing.
She couldn't take it any longer.
Mia sprinted down the carpet, up to the front stage where Sebastian still sat, eyes fixated on her. He stood, preparing for the impact when their bodies slammed together. Mia pulled his lips towards hers and made the distance between them nonexistent. Seb replied to her kiss with another, just as passionate and meaningful as hers.
"But... your... husband..." he whispered between kisses.
Mia placed her finger on his lips, silencing him. "Shhhh..." she whispered, leaning back in.
"I missed you," she whispered when they finished, pressing her head into his chest.
"I missed you too," he replied, placing a soft kiss on her forehead.
"I love you."
"I love you too. I never stopped."
