Chapter One
I tugged on my peach dress once more and slipped on some bracelets. I looked in the mirror, arranging my hair. (A/N: The outfit on the side is what she's wearing)
"Blake, let's get moving!" I heard my dad yell from downstairs and hearing from his voice I could tell he started to become impatient. I sighed and slipped on my sunglasses and grabbed the golden sandals that lay with the rest of my shoes. I walked out of my walk-in-closet, tugging on my shoes and snatched my matching purse. I looked once more in the mirror before ambling out the room, downstairs.
"Blake, why are you so slow?" my dad groaned as he fixed his bowtie. Hello to you too, I thought as I took an apple from the fruit bowl.
"Sorry," I quietly apologized before I took a bite.
"Let's go. Don't want to be late," my dad chuckled as he walked towards the garage. The garage was maybe the most embarrassing room in the house. It had about 5 cars in it that not even a wealthy family could afford. I never knew how we had ever gotten this wealthy but I didn't like thinking about it. I sat down in his black Bentley and waited from him to start the engine. As he did, he backed out of the driveway and on the road. 'Take Care' by Drake was humming quietly in the background and I hummed along. I loved the song I knew all the lyrics. I looked outside the window at the sunny Melbourne's scenery as it flashed by.
"The things they play on the radio these day," my dad muttered as he turned off the radio. I rolled my eyes making sure he couldn't see them and looked outside the window again. "Blake, I need you to make a good impression today." This time I did roll my eyes and let him see them, making him just sigh.
"Dad, you met this woman, what? 3 weeks ago? Why would I need to impress her? Before you know it, you guys won't work out."
"Dammit, Blake," my dad cursed as he made a sharp turn. "I'm doing this for us!"
"Us!" I choked out. "Us? Dad, please? This woman you like is nothing like mom? Are you trying to replace her so I feel better? No-one will ever be like mom, so you can stop trying!" I cried and that's when I realized I was crying. I quickly wiped them away and glanced out the window. My dad muttered a few words under his breath that I couldn't hear.
My mom died when I was 7, which was 9 years ago. So now I live alone with my farther in a huge house with our housekeeper, Melanie. My dad met a woman called, Jasmine who he is convinced is his 'love of his life'. She was hosting this country club party where I was forced to go to introduce myself. There would be rich snobs everywhere. Acting like they like each other and then talk behind each others back.
"Blake, please," my dad said quietly which surprised me. "We are here. Just say hi and do what you want. Just leave with a good impression." I looked at him with the how can you expression but he didn't see it because he was busy with his bowtie. I sighed and unbuckled my seatbelt and bolted out. My dad quickly walked up to my side and we walked to the garden where the party was. It was a hot afternoon and I could feel the sun teasing on my skin. We walked through the mansion until my dad spotted a lady with light brown curled hair. She was pretty, I'll admit but I couldn't call her my mom.
"Hello, Jasmine," my dad greeted as they kissed cheeks. She exchanged her hello and looked at me with a smile.
"You must be, Penelope," Jasmine smiled saying my real name.
I stuck out my hand, which she gently shook. "It's Blake. Nice meeting you, Jasmine," I tried to smile and seem polite but I think it sounded the opposite. She smiled back and began a conversation with my dad before whisking him away. Great, I thought, what now? I knew no one here and I wasn't planning to meet anyone.
After 20 minutes of being on my cell phone and trying to look polite I was done. I couldn't care anymore. I had made an impression on, Jasmine, so I was done. I walked out the drive way and on the road. Where I was going I wasn't so sure - but anywhere but the mansion had to be better.
I was walking for 10 minutes and I was lost. My phone rang a few times but I ignored them. I need peace. I founded exactly what I wanted. I smiled and continued to walk to it and took of my shoes. The sand felt good, slipping through my toes. I walked to the water and let it wash itself through my toes. I backed up and sat in the sand. This is exactly what I needed, I thought as the wind blew through my hair. The view was absolutely breath taking - I'm surprised I haven’t gone here before.
"Are you lost?" A male's voice asked and for a minute I thought it was my dad. Then I realized someone younger owned the voice. I looked up and faced a boy who seemed my age with brown hair that swayed across his forehead.
"Umm, no?" I replied turning my head back to the ocean.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes," I groaned. Why wasn't this person not leaving me alone? "Wait why would you think I'm lost?" He laughed as if I was kidding but I just gave him a ‘what?’ look.
"Look what you're wearing?" he chuckled as he pointed to my outfit. I'll admit, I probably didn't blend in. I was wearing a lot of jewelry and my hair was perfectly styled.
"You got a point," I smiled for the first at him. "I just came back from the worst party."
"Wanna talk to me about it?" he offered as he sat down next to me in the sand.
"I don't even know your name."
"Jai."
I smiled at his name. It went well with his looks and personality. "Blake." Jai smiled back, maybe thinking about the same.
"So, Blake, what happened?" I smiled at finally finding a person who would actually listen to me. I started to explain everything. Maybe even stuff I shouldn't have but who cared? He was a stranger anyway.
