I had the same dream again. I couldn't stop them. I couldn't save him. This time he was shot. Right in front of me. I saw the blood splatter from his brain and I felt my face being sprayed by it. It was warm. It was quick and they walked away as if they had just killed a bug. They felt peaceful. Like they saved humanity. And I remember thinking that he looked peaceful as well and that I was happy. It was horrifying.
It took me a while to realize where I was. The sound of tanks rolling over the bridge woke me up. I turned over to look at him. He was fine. He always was. I took moved over and cuddled him. He was cold. He could hardly move or speak, but he was alive and that was all that mattered.
He name is Owen. He is nineteen. My name is Octavia and im seventeen.
Two years ago there was and out-break of some type of flu called the Ozteratine Flu. It would cause the same effects as the normal flu only to worsen after a couple years. The government sent out vaccines as soon as it broke out and treated it as if it were nothing. The citizens were all forced to take shots, the symptoms dissapeared and we never heard of the problem again. Until now.
On August 1st of this year, we were told over the news that we were no longer able to leave this city. No explanation was given and no precaution was taken to prevent us from leaving. So nothing changed.
On August 31st, the army arrived. We were all shocked and scared. Nobody had any idea as to what was going on. So, just like any other person would do, we demanded answers. We revolted and fought for days without end for answers until that day came.
We called it O day. The day we found out that the Ozteratine Flu that was supposed to have been treated over a year ago was back. Or it had never left. Oz Flu was disstributed by the government into our food and water without our consent or knowledge. When people started to show symptoms, they had to come up with a way to make us feel safe so they created this so called ''vaccine'' to counter its effects. Turns out the Vaccine was but a higher dose of the Oz Flu injected into us.
"It was for science." Is what they told us about it at first. Nothing else. When people started growing extra limbs that weren't human, they told us not to worry. When people started to die, they told not to be scared. And when the ''higher-ups'' started walking around in quarentined suits, they told us the truth.
We were an experiment. To test out the effects of extraterrestrial blood mixed in with ours. The outcome was horrifying. All Hell broke loose. People tried to leave, resulting in them being shot and killed. But most of them couldn't stand it. In the first week of finding out the truth about the Oz Flu, sixty percent of the population was killed. Eighty percent of those deaths were the result of suicide. Leaving the rest to murder.
This ''epidemic'' has been kept secret from the rest of the world. It must have. They couldn't just go on living their day-to-day lives knowing that an entire city is being wiped-out. That's why we have to escape. We have to tell them. Let them know the truth. Maybe someone will be able to help us.
Please, let someone be able to help us.
