"First day of high school!!! I'm so excited!!!" Exclaimed my best friend, Mira.

"Oh, it's not that exciting," said my other best friend Alfred. I shrugged.

"I'm excited about band," I said.

"Of course you are, Lilac," said Mira. I rolled my eyes. The bus came and we got on. While the Mira and Alfred went to the back, I sat in the front and studied my schedule. I saw that I had band fourth period. I smiled.

The bus pulled up to the school and we all filed off the bus. I walked into the school and my heart sped up. I looked around and saw all the jocks sitting out front in their football jerseys and being idiots. That's when I saw him. Cody Samson. I didn't know his name yet.

The first three periods went by super quick. I went to lunch and sat on the steps outside listing to music and reading. I also watched everyone else being weird and crap. Cody walked by me and looked at me. He did this sexy half smile that he was perfect at doing. I felt chest tighten and my heart sped up. He wouldn't be into me, I thought. He's too popular. Too... perfect...

I heard the bell rang, grabbed my things, and walked towards my next class. Band. I smiled when I saw Matthew Nigel.

"Hey, Matty," I said. He hated the name "Matty".

"Shut up, Lilac," he replied. I laughed.

"How was your summer?" He asked.

"It was fine," I said. "What about your's?"

"Eh. My mom was being mom," he said. I nodded. I knew that him and his mom had been going at it since he was in the fifth grade.

"Hello, freshmen!" I heard someone say very enthusiastically. I looked behind me and saw the band director walking up to the door of the band room to unlock it.

We all file into the room and sit down. I sit down by Matthew and his girlfriend Brittany.

"Alright everybody, I'm Mr. Samuel," our band director says. He tells us where to sit by what instrument we play. I ended up being put by Cody.

"You play the Tuba?" He asked. I nodded. He did that sexy half smile.

"Um... Y-You're on the, um, f-football team?" I asked. He nodded.

"Yeah. My arms all banged up. Like, I have really ugly bruises on my arm," he said. I nodded.

"I would've been on the cheer team but my mom said no to that," I said. He smirked. He pulled out his phone and showed me a picture of his arm. The bruises where yellow and brown. The looked painful. I couldn't help but notice that the picture showed that he obviously work out. I gasped at on how big his biceps were.

"Yeah, I know. Bad, huh," he said.

"Oh! Um, yeah. Yeah. Bad," I stuttered. He half smiled at me.

"What's your name?" He asked. I looked at him and smiled.

"Um, Lilac. Lilac Stephens," I said.

"Nice name. 'Lilac.'" He said, I giggled.

"Thanks. I never really liked it. I always wanted my name to be Alice," I said.

"I think 'Lilac' suites you," he said. I smiled. He smiled back.

"What's your name?" I asked.

"Oh. My name is Cody Samson," he said. We shook hands. We talked until the bell rang. I walked out of class smiling.
