The Prologue
Tears flow from her golden-brown eyes; her silk-like brunette hair softly frames her face. Her skin was soft, shimmering ivory. Her eyes look down at me, filled with fear, sorrow, and love, as a gentle smile appears on her face. Then, picking me up and cradling me in her arms softly, she weeps.
In the distance, there is a loud crash. I tighten my legs around her; clutching me tightly to her chest, I hear the quick beating of her heart. Suddenly a man rushes into the room. Fear that was once in his electrifying blue eyes was replaced with relief. The man was just as beautiful, with light brown hair and the same ivory skin. The woman rushes into his arms, wrapping us in a warm, loved-filled embrace. Then, letting us go as there's another crash, sounding much closer.
"Quickly, Mary, you must go to the forest and wait at the portal. Arick will be here any second; he will go with and protect you and Lylah ", leading her into the office; he quietly closes the door.
"Why did he come now? She is only four. What could he gain from an innocent child?" holding me closer to her chest, I feel the hate and disgust coming from her. Both turn their heads toward the door as someone steps in. I looked away from my mommy and turned to see what I could only describe as the most beautiful man I had ever seen.
His soft grey eyes were slightly covered by raven black hair just past his ears. A wide smile breaks across my face as I squirm to get out of my mother's arms. Softly she laughs, letting me go, and I run towards Arick. He grins back as he bends down and picks me up. Then, holding me in his arms, he looks back at my parents. With a stern and fierce look on his face, my parents looked like it hit them with a hard realization.
"He is just outside the border, I put up a barrier, but it won't be long before he breech's it. He has been gathering some powerful allies, Sebastian and I took care of the others. If we are going to make it, we must go now " my parents nodded in agreement. My father went over to the bookcase and quickly pushed it away, exposing an open doorway with a staircase. It led outside and to the back. My father kisses me on the forehead.
"Lilly, my sweet little angel, daddy loves you with all his heart forever and always now; remember to be a good girl for mommy, okay?" he looks at me with eyes full of love and great sadness.
"Okay, I love you, daddy, forever and always, "I smiled up at him placing my small hand on his cheek, wiping away the fallen tear. He smiles and grasps my hand, kissing it. Then, he straightens up, looking at Arick with a stern expression.
"I know and have faith that you will watch over and protect my daughter, "I feel Arick's arms lightly tighten around me.
"Till my last breath," daddy smiles at Arick and goes over to mommy, embracing her in a hug. He whispers something in her ear as she reluctantly nods in agreement. He leans in, giving mommy a loving kiss. When they pulled away, he mouthed, "I love you," and she replied, "Forever." They parted ways, and Arick handed me back to my mother and headed in front with us right behind him.
We heard the soft thud of the bookcase being pushed back against the opening. It wasn't long before we were out in the clearing, right outside the forest. And with magnificent speed, they took off running. The trees blurred, and not a minute later; they stood in a small clearing where everything was lit with an eerie glow from the moon. My mother placed me on the ground, and Arick stood guard behind her. She got down on her knees, making her height closer to mind, and took my hands in hers.
"My beautiful daughter Lilly, me and daddy, love you very much, and were going to make sure the wicked man can never get to you. One day when you're older, you will learn and understand, and mommy will be there to guide you" she kisses my forehead and places her right hand in the same place, still holding my hand in her left. She began speaking in words I did not understand.
"et luna, et ascendere te faciam spiritum (with the moon and spirit I ascend you)," her hand glows with a bright white light, and it consumes me.
"Ligare, et obscuravit: et memoriam vestri ab dea usque ad tempus verum lucet (to bind and conceal your memories held by the goddess till time shines true). I love you.." those were the last words I heard before being completely engulfed in white.
