Coming from Germany, the bergleute are the well known mountain dwarves, who dwell tunnels under the earth and inhabit gigantic underground cities.
Usually peaceful, friendly and witty, the bergleutes sometimes interacted with humans, usually becoming legendary smiths or builders.
Among themselves, they organizes a mostly patriarchal society. Woman bergleutes are very similar to the males down to having a beard, and are usually held as such. Due to an old tradition, only male heirs can be king of the mountain, or Lord of the city, but woman hold powers as well, just not the title.
In the Alps, a clan was ruled by a matriarch who lived 564 years of peace. She created a title for her daughters before her death, and to our knowing her 5 children ruled together.
Bergleutes are not war driven creatures, and in cases of danger, prefer to sabotage the enemies cities in ways that only the dwarves can fix.
Bergleutes have the very unique capacity of communication with minerals. They can see the past of their chosen mineral, talk to it, feel it's energy and emotions. It's because of this capacity that they can bend any metal to their wills and any jewels to the form they see fit.
The nickel was named after a bergleute loving this metal so much that he named it after himself, as he couldn't dissociate his personality from the metal.
Forbbiden knowledge : Some Bergleutes/Human couples have been proven to be able to breed together and produce semi childs.
