As she became a little older to comprehend. She realized how quickly her father developed severe depression from the death of her mother. Which caused him to get into drinking. He shortly got fired from his job due to never being sober. This lead his depression to increase and he started drink more heavily. He became more abusive and he began to develop suicidal thoughts, but he knew he could leave his daughter. While all this was happening to her father Madison just watched. She didn't like seeing her father so sad and depressed. But she was also getting abused by him. At the time she didn't know what was happening to her. She was to young to comprehend her fathers abuse but at the same time it caused some emotional issues. As she got older she realized that her father needed actual help and she realized that she was getting abused and that it wasn't normal. As she tried to find help for her father in secret he died of too much alcohol consumption when she was 15 years old. She was then sent to live with her grandmother. Her grandmother shortly died of old age and Maddy continued getting bullied by the people in her school.
