Prologue

Within the walls of the palace of Asgard a man sits at the bedside of his wife, cradling a young baby girl in his arms.

His once handsome features have been ruined by the stress of becoming a parent and forming battle plans for Asgard. He knows to properly care for his child he will have to give his position as a defender of Asgard.

Folkvar's dark brown hair has begun turning gray and wrinkles have begun to appear on his aging face. His wife, Ingrid, leans back in her bed and sighs tiredly, her green-grey eyes half-shut as she smiles at her husband and her newborn child.

"What shall we name her?" she asks wearily. Her husband furrows his eyebrows and looks out the window, deep in thought.

Just as his eyes shift to a nearby tree a beautiful black bird lands on one of its branches. The bird's shiny feathers reflects a strange shimmering color in the sunlight as it sits still for a moment before taking off into the air.

"Raven." Folkvar tells his wife with a small smile. Ingrid's smile widens before turning into a grimace of pain as her breath catches in her throat.

Folkvar turns to her, panicked. "Doctors!" he yells as he grips her hand. "Help!" Several people rush into the room and run to Ingrid as baby Raven begins to cry.

A doctor smiles kindly at Folkvar and takes the screaming infant from her father's arms as he yells for his dying wife. "Ingrid!" he cries, tears welling up in his eyes. "Please don't leave me!" The doctors rush around her bedside, unsure of what to do.

The man holding the screaming baby quickly silences her and slips out of the room unnoticed. He checks that the corridor is empty before feeling around the smooth golden wall for a small bump on it's surface. Once his fingers find the groove he presses on it firmly and a small door slowly slides open.

He crawls in before resealing the entrance and scurrying down the dank passageway. All this time Raven remains silent, her green-gray eyes wide, staring into the darkness.

After several minutes the man he reaches the end of the tunnel, skilfully climbs up several rocks and carries the infant out into the forest where the tunnel ends. There, waiting is a large cloaked figure who comes to meet the kidnapper.

"Have you retrieved the child?" he asks in a deep voice. The man holds out Raven to him "Yes, I have done what you asked."

The cloaked man removes his hood to reveal his strange purple head, covered by a golden helmet. His bright blue eyes glow eerily in the sunlight as he studies the child's innocent face.

"Thanos, I have done what you have asked. I expect you will give me something in return." The man tells him, obviously wanting some kind of payment. Thanos shakes his head in amusement.

"You Asgardians, so gullible." With that he shoots a burst of energy at the man, sending him flying back and uses his telekinesis to smash his head into a nearby rock, killing him instantly. Baby Raven begins to cry at the sight of the man's death and Thanos shushes her.

"Be quiet, child." He brings a purple hand up to touch her forehead. "You will adjust." A strange blue energy flows from his fingers to the child and flows into her veins, illuminating them.

"You will be my greatest experiment." Thanos tells her before setting her down by the rocks and disappearing.
