(3rd P.O.V)
“The Saders, the White Lilies servants, will come around to choose at random the first hundred people who will be put into the arena. You will have thirty minutes a round, that should be enough time for a good, fair fight to be fought,” Patrick explained.
“I will be watching the fights, but the crowd will also be my eyes and ears! Make sure there is fair play, if you have abilities they will be usable during these games and only these games, but other than that good luck!” he yelled into the mic and the crowd cheered.
Iris hunched her back trying to hide in the people who had stood asking the Saders to choose them to go to fight. A hand landed on her shoulder and Iris sat there shocked, “Iris Ivy Jones, you will fight in Section 5 A. I will proceed to bring you there.” the Sader said, a white cloak covered their face as they grabbed Iris’s hand and started pulling her towards a new place.
The Sader was walking so fast that it was hard to tell where they were leading were leading her. The smells of sweat, fear, and blood rushed past her nose as they speed through the crowd. Then, like thunder, voices crashed in around her and she stumbled forward into what she knew was an arena.
The announcer’s voice sounded over the head and Iris looked up, “The fights will start in one minute, spectators find your seats and get comfortable.” Iris rubbed her hands listening at the footstep, she heard 10 other sets of feet walking about the area. She reached out following her hands to find the wall, found it resting her hands against the granite. She ran her hands over the wall feeling the vibration from the other sides.
“Your going to be easy to kill aren’t you?” someone asked she turned around searching for the voice then the announcer come over again. “Hold onto your hat’s ladies and gentleman, the fighting begins now!” he yelled.
Iris tensed, the person who talked to her circled towards her another next to him. “We’ll take her out first!” they yelled, Iris blinked staring blindly at the ground. They ran towards her she straightened then reached out just as one of the boys jumped up ready to attack. She grabbed his shirt and twisted throwing him across the arena into a wall.
It was silent in their arena for a second then people came towards them, Iris fought as best she could. Her hearing finding there feet in the stand, something seemed to be guiding her hand as she worked. That was when the last one was left standing he was breathing hard and his heartbeat, she could hear from 10 feet away from him.
“I will not lose to a blind girl. It’s against my morals!” he yelled, she nodded and heard his feet then they were gone. She was frozen then something hit her shoulder. She yelled as she was thrown back but she caught her feet and stood up. She couldn’t him then knew he could float, he had that power. She growled and threw her arm out and she caught his shirt she pulled him close, she could smell his sweat and his fear.
“Never underestimate the hidden abilities of blind girl.” she hissed and threw him across the arena she heard the thud as he hit the ground she sighed as the weight of the fight settled in she coughed and felt the wetness in her throat.
She could hear more people walk in she cracked her knuckles blocking the feelings she had. She won the next two fights each one easier as they came along there was a pause between fights so the winners of three fights could leave.
Someone pulled her out of the arena and into a waiting area she sat down once she found the wall. Twenty people were in the room, someone sat down next to Iris, she tensed and pulled her legs up trying to keep her closer to herself.
“You know your bleeding right?” Noah asked, she could place his voice as he talked. She looked at him, “Where? I was only hit once.” she said reaching to feel her face, there was no blood there, she felt his hand wrap around hers leading it her shoulder. That was when she felt the torn fabric and the wetness of blood. “He cut me,” she whispered. She touched the wound and found a sharp edge she clenched her teeth as she pulled it out, Noah gasped.
“What are you-” he began then he saw the small blade, she squeezed her eyes shut letting the relapse of pain past. She felt the soft edge of something press against the now open wound, “People will use that against you in the next round of the Ceremony,” Noah said. She blinked though it really didn’t do anything.
“Thanks.” Iris said looking away from him. He left after tying a bandage around her arm. She decided to stay away even though she was tired, there was no time to waste even now. 300 people made it to the next round of the Ceremony, now it was time to move, Iris stood following the Sader that had taken her hand. She was told to sit, it smelled sweet, almost like flowers.
She heard the flap of tents walls and knew it was the next round she could hear Grams cheering her on. “You might be confused but this is a test of the brains, You will use what you have learned to beat other opponents, 20 people will fight at once. No paper just your voice. Buttons are in front of you the first to press the button and get the answer right will move on the rest will all be eliminated. Only 15 people will move on, try your best. The Questions start now!” Patrick's voice cut out and it was silent.
“I am your questanar I will ask one question listen quick and don’t forget anything you can write it down but do as you must. No cheating, now what is the answer to this question. Whats is -2 over 7 times 1 minus 4x plus 8 equal 18? (-2/7 (1-4x) + 8 =18)” the Saber asked.
Iris hit the button fast and steady and it was all silent, “9!!” she shouted.
It was silent but she knew she was write, “That is… correct!!” the Saber said and the crowd roared. Iris released a breath and was lead back to a different room where there were no people, she ran her hand over her wound feeling the itchy feeling but not being able to control her happiness.
“How did you do that?” Noah asked when he walked into the tent she was in. “I was tested by Grams on math, I might not be able to see but I can hear pretty well. I formed the equation in my head and solved it as they talked,” Iris said. Noah glared at her but sat down anyways. The rest of the people walked in and they were once again transferred this time it was to the Field of Lilies.
“Now this is the hardest challenge we have tasked you with. The white Lily has hidden two white lilies within this field. You have till dusk to find a single lily, you have to use you sight to find it within the field of wild lilies. As you know white lilies only grow within the wall of the White Lilies palace.
Iris lost all hope. She stood at the foot of the lily field and smelled the air all she could smell were flowers, she couldn’t place any of them. Someone walked up behind her, “I don’t think the skills of a blind person could help you find a white lily,” a person whispered. She started walking just trying not to fall, she walked fast but slow tasting the air until she was far enough away not to hear any people. Iris found a tree, she sat down and pulled her legs up hiding her face in her legs, she cried though she had promised herself that she wouldn’t.
“You had a good winning streak but we all knew you wouldn’t win, good try though.” Noah said, she hide anyways knowing what he was holding though she couldn’t see it. “And I found a white lily is you were wondering, though you probably knew that. Goodbye Iris.” Noah said leaving and she could hear the people cheering.
