The control room was dead silent.
Finally Lance broke it.
"So....murder is fun." he said. "Anyone feeling up for a bit of killing?"
"Lance, no." Shiro said, pinching the bridge of his nose, not bothering to conceal his rage. "Despite how very appealing going on a murder spree sounds right now, we're still the defenders of the universe. We're the good guys, remember?"
"I don't remember saving giant CUNTS WAS INCLUDED IN THE JOB DESCRIPTION!!" Lance screamed, his anger scent filling the room. It was a horrible smell, like burnt rubber. "I refuse to let someone like him live. Especially not after threatening my mate and my FUCKING DAUGHTER!!!"
"Lancey," Keith said, trying to calm the omega down. While Keith was in fact enraged at what he just heard, he knew that trying to kill everyone would only make things worse. "Think about Clarissa. Would it be beneficial to her if we killed everyone that threatened her?"
"Yes?"
"No, Lance, the answer was no."
"But I don't like that answer."
"I know."
"I want to kill them."
"I know."
"Can I?"
"No."
"I hate that answer."
"I know."
Lance huffed and crossed his arms, his lower lip jutting out in an adorable pout. Keith sighed and turned to Shiro to come up with an idea. With Lance relitively subdued, they could come up with a more logical way to solve this.
(wow, Keith was in awe of how mature he was acting. He would definitely have to be immature later to make up for it!)
"Shiro, what do you suggest we do?" Keith asked.
"I...I don't know," Shiro answered honestly. "I never expected the Garrison to be so.."
"Fucked up? Insane? Full of ignorant sluts?" Lance offered helpfully.
"I was going to say twisted but...I suppose those work as well." Shiro said. "I think what is really important right now is finding a safe place for Clarissa to go."
"Can't we just leave the planet?" Lance asked in a whiney tone. "It's not like their advanced enough to follow us."
"Lance we still need Earth to join the coalition." Shiro reminded him. Lance huffed.
"Why should we let Earth join our coalition?" Lance asked. "Nothing good can come from this rock."
"You came from there," Keith said. "We all did. Isn't that good?"
"I mean yeah, but," Lance fumbled, trying to find the right words. "But its also full of fucking assholes..."
"Hey! My family lives there!" Pidge called, a glare sent his way.
"Sorry Pidge," Lance said in a sigh. "I just...I don't want my pack in any more danger because of me."
The group looked at each other in confusion. "Lance..what are you talking about?"
"You know, 'Lance the most unhelpful paladin'. 'Lance the dumb omega who thought people who abandoned him as a child would love him more than his own pack'. Or better yet 'Lance the idiot who can't even protect the people he loves'." Lance said dryly.
The entire pack stared at him in horror, flinching at his obvious self-deprecation. "Lance...that's not true," Hunk said, already beginning to get choked up. "How could you even think that?"
"I...I just..." Lance's eyes watered as he began to feel more and more helpless. No, he refused to cry in front of his pack. He needed to be strong. For his pack. For his mate. For Clarissa. Lance took a deep breath. "It's not important. Let's focus on finding a way to keep Clarissa safe, yeah?"
Keith's eyes narrowed at the obvious subject change, but he also knew when to not push Lance so he sighed and allowed it. "Lance is right. While this is very obviously not something that we ignore, I agree that we should focus on finding a way to keep our daughter safe." Keith then turned and gave Lance a very serious look. "We will, however, be having a talk about this later."
Lance sighed in defeat. "Okay."
"Now," Keith said, catching the attention of everyone. "Let's save my daughter."
=====================
"Sir," Jackson called. Iverson turned around to acknowledge to intern.
"What is it, cadet?"
"The Red Paladin is surrendering." he said.
"What?" Iverson looked out the screen and sure enough, there was Kogane exiting the well protected castle, his arms raised in the universal sign of surrender. "Wonderful....and you said that he wouldn't surrender, eh James?"
James huffed and looked away from Iverson's smirking face. Sure, the Red Paladin may have surrendered, but had he not, his idea would've worked tremendously.
Iverson tapped the speaker button. "Red Paladin, Keith Kogane, this is Iverson of the Garrison Police. You are under arrest for terrorizing an innocent citizen using alien abilities." Iverson said, his words echoing across the valley.
Keith grunted and his mouth began to move. Iverson turned on the speakers so everyone in central command could hear him.
"I, Keith Kogane, paladin of the Red Lion, surrender." he said. Iverson smirked and allowed the police units to move to make the arrest.
"I must say, I am surprised." Iverson mused as the police geared up to leave. "I never expected you would surrender, considering your...past grievances."
Keith sneered. "Yes, well I guess I just enjoy surprising you."
Iverson sobered at that. It was true, that nightmare child seemed to take particular pleasure in making Iverson's life a living hell. When he told him that Shiro had perished in an accident due to a piloting error (a clear mistake now, as Shiro leads Voltron) the menace had stabbed him in the eye.
It was a miracle Iverson survived in the first place.
"Yes." Iverson spat out dryly. "I suppose you do."
"And now that you have me in your possession, let my friends go." Keith demanded. Iverson hummed as he thought. Now that he had the Red Paladin, the rest of Voltron was invaluable to him...for the time being.
"Fine." he then ordered all fighter pilots to return to HQ. Keith seemed to visibly relax when the fighter jets were gone. As soon as the jets were back in the Garrison's hangar the giant castle ship took off, soon disappearing with a cloaking device.
Iverson marveled at the advanced technology. He would surely have to interrogate the Red Paladin for information on how the technology was created. And perhaps he'd gouge out his eyeball as well, an eye for an eye if you will.
Iverson watched with glee as his police men surrounded Keith. They moved in to put him handcuffs when everything darkened.
The handcuffs went through him.
"WHAT?!" Iverson shouted. The image of Keith flickered for a second before returning to the life-like mirage.
It was a hologram.
The holographic Keith laughed.
"You dumbass," he said in between laughs. "I can't believe that actually worked!"
"KOGANE!!" Iverson roared. "HOW DARE YOU!!! RETURN HERE AT ONCE!!"
"Lick my balls, asswipe." was all Keith said before his image disappeared.
Iverson stood there, his face red with rage.
"Kogane.....you're so dead." was he said.
