"But do not have love, I gain nothing"

1 Corinthians 13:3

Do you know that almost all of us are generous?

Many of my friends, when asked, give a portion of their salary to their parents, while some give to other causes, such as NGOs, feeding programs, or the Church.

We all are generous at some point, but we must admit that most of the time we expect for a return, as a famous business saying goes "What can I get in return?" We give, give and give in order to take, take and take.

If you think that life is only "give and take," then you do not know yet Jesus. He already changed the trend from "give and take" to "give and give."

Jesus said to his disciples "You have heard that it was said, 'an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth'." (Matthew 5:38)

Until now we can still see the same idea in the movies we watch and people we talk with. It's as if we are entitled of having something, that every time we give, we must get something back.

Are we born with cash in our hands or a necklace around our neck? No! We're all born with nothing, but why do we act as if we are entitled to have everything? This is what Jesus broke!

When you give, give more! When something is taken away from you, give more! Unlimited giving!

Jesus exemplified generosity at its finest,

"When someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other one to him as well. If anyone wants to go to law with you over your tunic, hand him your cloak as well. Should anyone press you into service for one mile, go with him for two miles. Give to the one who asks of you, and do not turn your back on one who wants to borrow." (Matthew 5:39-42)

As St. Paul further explained it,

"If I give everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing." (1 Corinthians 13:3)

Friend, let us give with love and through love, lest it will be of no value.

The gain we're waiting will not come from someone here in this world, but from God himself, and that gain will be your true happiness.
