Tyler's habit of handing in quizzes last started last year and, as I soon found out, continued strong into our senior year. Our Physics and Pre-Calc teacher gives us quizzes every class after a lesson instead of giving us homework, and Tyler has developed the habit of being the very last person to hand these in, despite him being one of the first ones to complete each question. It started because he'd double or triple check his answers every time, causing him to finish after everyone else, but after a while he would just sit there patiently and wait for the last person to finish their quiz before handing his in. It became a sort of running joke for him, that he would stand at his desk with his quiz in his hand watching everyone hand in their quizzes until he could be the last one to do so. I don't think most people thought about this, but I think he started waiting to make people feel better. Maybe I'm wrong - I don't doubt that it's possible - but I think he knew that a struggling student would feel better if they still managed to hand in their quiz sooner than one of the top students. Of course, everyone knows it's just a joke now, but I'd like to believe that there really was a meaningful purpose to it in the beginning.
