Heels clicked on the cold linoleum, followed by the slap of bare feet.

The pair reached a white room, with white walls, a white bed, and a white rug.

"Patient 27B, ready for test." The heeled woman cleared her throat. "Begin in three"

"Two"

"One"

A button clicked.

The woman disappeared behind a white door, leaving a little girl, no older than eight years, alone in a bleached room.

"Test has begun." A simulated voice echoed into the confined space.

The little girl stood still, waiting.

Waiting.

Wading.

An ocean appeared in the girl's mind, with tall rocks shadowing the sandy beach. Water slapped the rocks, and there she sat at the beach, standing in the cool breeze.

A young woman emerged from behind
her, grasping the girl's bony shoulder.

The girl whipped around, the white room flooding into her eyesight.

"Test complete. Escort Patient 27B back to quarters."

The pristine and tall woman returned, rushing the girl out of the room, hurrying down the long hall, and stopping at an office.

The woman nervously locked the door, shoving the patient into a cushioned chair.

Standing above the girl, the woman stared into Patient 27B's large blue eyes.

"Sure is something, is it not?" The woman mumbled.

"You're the only one who has survived the experiment."
