I'm Allie. I'm 14 years old and live with my mom. I lost my dad in the air Force 10 years ago. My life was never the same. Being the only child, people often feel sorry for me. Just for being the only child, and that's it! I'm not mad, nor am I sad but just confused. The adults always worry if I'm depressed.

"She has no one."

"How does she manage?"

"Is she ok?"

I'm ok if you ask me. I have places to go when I'm bored. I don't have friends but I'd like to make some. All my friends live in California. I had to move when my dad died. I had to leave all my friends behind. Here in London it's very cold. It feels like Summers are Winters. It snows almost every day here. That's what I like about it here, I never have to be hot.

I have a special place I like to go to every day. My mom lets me go whenever I want. I walk down a narrow path in the forest, down a path that leads to a river. The river flows down far, but I don't know how far it goes, but the way it flows is beautiful. I look down at the river. The water is baby blue. No animals swim in it, but stones sit underneath. I dipped my hand in and picked one up. It was cool grey. It looked sleek and shiny from the water. I tossed it down the river, watching it sink to the bottom. I look at the grass. The grass is always green. It was never dead or trimmed. Somehow it stays perfect each time I see it. I've been visiting this place since I was 4 so I'd know.

I look up at the sky taking admiration in the grey clouds. I like the sky because it reminds me of being relaxed. The clouds were calming. Birds soared in the sky, chirping to one another. They chirped as if they were talking to each other as they made their way down to the forest and in a tree.

The trees are the best part about the Forest. They were high above the ground. You could look up but still couldn't see the leaves. One day I'll climb up there and pick a leave for mom. She'll be surprised that I climbed up there just to get a leaf!

I checked my phone for the time. 8:30. It was still early. It's best to be here early because the surroundings were best. In the afternoon the river reflects the orange sky making it a pastel pink color, with a hint of orange. I saw a message from my mom so I clicked on it to read it.

Mom: Time to come home! Your cousins are coming!

Ugh. I hated my cousins. They never liked me. They always were on their phones texting or playing video games. But there's a little girl who's 12 and her name is Chelsea. She's the only one who dares to talk to me. I quickly put my phone in my purse. Before I leave I take one look at the river. "I'll see you later." I picked up a stone and chucked it. This time I threw it far. Far enough to reach the other side of the river. It landed on the grass. I walked back down the path to my house. My house is huge. It's actually a mansion. It has 6 bedrooms, 3 baths and 2 garages. One of the garages is where my mom does her pottery. She makes pottery and sells it. My mom works a lot but manages to make time to spend with me. I walked to my door and opened it. I ran upstairs to my bedroom and shut the door. I take off my boots and set them in my closet filled with more shoes. While my dad still worked in the air Force, he always bought me shoes every August. I set my boots next to my other boots and closed the closet. My room is huge too. My bed and dresser didn't take up the space that was still left. I could fit 3 more beds if I wanted to! My walls were covered in pineapples and seashells. The background is mint green since it suits the designs. My bedding pretty much matched too. It was mint green with white polka dots and pineapples. My pillowcase has one pineapple in the center. I'm obsessed with pineapples! I even own a pair of white slip on vans with pineapples on the top.

After I got situated I went downstairs. My mom was sitting on the couch. She looked up from her book. "Hey sweetie!"

"Hey Mom." I sat next to her and gave her a hug. "How was work?"
