Chapter 15

Please understand that every single person has a different opinion about how this story should go, and I am one of those people. My opinion is probably not going to suit everyone, but you still should not be rude about it. There is a thin line between giving your honest opinion and just saying rude things.

Thank you to all the reviewers. And for the birthday wishes a few of you sent me.

Rick woke up to his doorbell ringing and heard two little feet running towards it.

"Daddy, it is Kate! Can I open it?" Alexis yelled to her dad.

It had been a week since that night he saw her being dropped off by Josh at her apartment. He had done a lot of thinking, but he wasn't sure he wanted to talk to her right now. He had woken just a moment ago, and now his daughter and mother were letting Kate inside. He had heard her before yes, she hadn't kissed Josh, but she still went on a date with him. He had thought of it wrong, but then he realized that they weren't dating. He hadn't really asked her if she wanted to be his girlfriend either. He just always sort of figured she was his, and he was hers.

He also understood that she was scared to lose what they had, hell, he was too. But he was sure that they would work. He had fallen for Meredith, Alexis' mother, but that was nothing compared to what Kate did to him. He really loved her. He was sure of it, but he didn't want a relationship where the other party wouldn't put the effort in them.

Still, even though he knew that, he still had to talk to her. Figure this all out.

Alexis was in Kate's arms as she was talking to Kate, greeting her and catching up. "Did you get the drawing I made you?" the little girl was so excited to see her friend again.

"Yeah little one, I got your drawing. I hang it up and I look at it every single day." Kate had a smile on her face but it slightly faded as Rick cleared his throat as he walked into the living room.

"Alexis, pumpkin, could you go play upstairs for a bit?" he asked his daughter as Kate put her down.

"But daddy, why?" Alexis whined. "I wanted to tell her about what I learned." She said along with a pout.

"I have to talk to Kate for a bit, I promise you will get to tell her later, okay?" The little girl nodded and waved at Kate before taking her grandmother's hand and walking up the stairs.

"It's nice to see you again, Kate." Martha said before the two redheads disappeared.

Rick walked back into his office and Kate followed him. "Did you mean that? Will I get to talk to Alexis later?" Kate really wondered.

"I don't know, Kate. Will you?" he had a mean undertone in his voice.

"I hope so..." her voice wandered off. She searched for his eyes. They made eye contact and she saw how much anger, but mostly sadness, was still there. "I really want to, but it's not my place to decide."

"No, it's not." Rick agreed, "But she likes you, you're a family friend, and I hope that after today, that never changes."

"I see," Kate swallowed the lump in her throat. "So you don't want anything more than just friendship." It was more of a statement than a question, but she still wanted to know the answer.

"Kate, I don't know what I want. I want you but obviously you didn't want me. I thought we had this connection. I thought you understood that when I tried to kiss you, I didn't want anyone else and I had hoped that you didn't either, even though we weren't together yet."
