Jamie hasn't slept in several days and not for lack of trying. He's been staring at ceiling for the past hour, he eyes never getting even the slightest bit heavy, and its starting to piss him off. Sleeping should be easy, he was happy, the happiest he'd been in awhile, despite almost being killed just a few days ago. He rolls over onto his side, it was two in the morning according to his alarm clock. He groans grabbing his phone from his bedside table. The light from the screen nearly blinds him as he unlocks his phone, the blue light illuminating the dark room. Although it wasn't super dark to begin with, rooms in the city were never completely dark on account that lights from the street alway shone through windows. Jamie unlocks his phone tapping into his last text conversation. A smile finds its way to his lips.
Him and Eddie had been texting throughout that day unable to ever meet up because of their schedules, Eddie was visiting her mom in Westchester and Jamie had a mandatory psych evaluation. By the time Eddie got back into the city they had decided to just not meet up at all, and just to see each other tomorrow. This was the first day that they hadn't seen each other since they finally gave into their feelings. After almost being shot and Eddie saving his life Jamie couldn't take it anymore. Eddie had only been shot a month previously and Jamie was starting to think that this not being together because of the job was getting stupid.
So that night after the shooting while out for drinks with Eddie he did it. He finally told her what he had been wanting to tell her since she got shot. That he wanted to be with her. That he couldn't go another day without her knowing how he felt because he was starting to make himself sick keeping it all inside. Eddie didn't say anything right away and Jamie was sure he was going to puke. Instead she had grabbed his hand and pulled him from the bar stool he was sat at, she dropped some cash on the bar for their drinks and pulled him through the crowded bar and onto the sidewalk outside of their usual bar. She still hadn't uttered a single word, she just kept leading him down the street, until they are around the corner. She stops, still not having said a word, she dropped his hand and then she leapt towards him. He immediately wraps his arms around her back keeping her lifted off of the ground, as their lips melded together perfectly. She had later explained that the didn't want to kiss him in front of all those people at the bar, which Jamie found reasonable as they would never hear the end of it from all their friends that had been there.
Jamie continues scrolling through their conversation. His heart felt like it was being squeezed but not in a painful way, in way that felt like his heart was so full it would burst from his chest at any second. He clicks out of the text messages and moves over to his camera roll. Jamie had never been much of a tech person or one to take pictures in general but when he was with Eddie she brought out certain sides of him that he hadn't even know existed within him. He found himself taking snapshot of her as she laughed, as she smiled, as she did anything that made his heart flutter in his chest because he wanted to be able to look back on them whenever he wanted, for moments like this exact one, when they are apart. His favorite picture of her was one where she was laughing, her head thrown back slightly, her eyes squinted and her mouth slightly open in a wide grin, he could hear the laugh just looking at the picture. The next one was a close second, it was one of them together, Jamie was smiling at the camera while Eddie was gazing up at him smiling widely, probably laughing again, she did that lot. Jamie adored her laugh, even though she was constantly talking about how much she hated the sound of her laugh. Jamie thought it was the most adorable laugh he'd ever heard.
Jamie glances at the clock it was now almost three in the morning. He sighs deciding to maybe give up on even trying to go to sleep. He throws off his comforter swinging his feet over the side of the bed, getting out of bed and padding over to the kitchen for a snack.
He gets a glass of water and grabs some pistachios from the cabinet. He takes his snack and drink over to the couch plopping down with a sigh. He puts the glass of water down on the coffee table so that he can peel the pistachios. As he peels them he think about the first time he told Eddie he loved her. It was on this very couch oddly enough they had been eating pistachios then too. It was the day after their first night together. He was sure that she already knew that he loved her but felt the need to say it anyway. They were tossing pistachios up in the air aiming for each others mouths, yes they were actually 10 year olds, and Eddie was on a streak of nine in a row and they were going for ten. Eddie was talking a big game while Jamie just shook his head at her, getting the next pistachios ready for the toss. Eddie had narrowly caught it and was so pleased with herself that she had hopped off the couch and done the craziest victory dance, while Jamie just chuckled. Then the words slipped right out of his mouth. "I love you." It was said amist giggles from Eddie and chuckles from Jamie. But Eddie had immediately frozen in place her arms still in an awkward position from her dance. She only pauses of about a millisecond before tackling Jamie into a lying position on the couch. Her lips immediately pressing into his before pulling just far enough away for her to say "I love you too."
