soulmate au

where everyone has a timer counting down to the first time their soulmate says "i love you."
the timer then goes back to what was printed on your wrist the second you were born

Today was the day. Today your timer ran out.

00:00:00:00:12:09:03

Zero years, zero months, zero days, 12 hours, 9 minutes, and three seconds. You could feel the black ink itching on the inside of your wrist, waiting to disappear for once and for all.

Though it felt like a long time, you actually had a pretty short countdown time at a little over 17 years. In fact, most of your friends had theirs at 22, the minimum. Finn had his at 72; poor guy. The boy's never tried his luck at a fling either.

With a clear mindset, you set off to start your day; first stop at the coffee shop to meet Finn's band. You sighed, wishing to feel happier about the situation seeing as Finn was too excited about it.

He'd wanted you to meet his counterparts since he first met them himself, it was all he talked about at certain points; and you had no problem with it as it brought him joy when everything else failed, even you.

Your screen turned on, an imessage notification decorating your lock screen, a picture of you and Finn, of course.

"Meet you there at 9, you've got an hour. Dress nice please!!"

The aesthetic shop filled your nostrils with the stench of fresh brew, you'd never been a fan of coffee, but Finn was so you managed. Almost on cue, Finn's curly head peeked, brown eyes searching for you.

"Hey Finniard, these are the people you've been wanting me to meet for the past couple years?" You chuckled, walking over to him and two other boys.

The blonde one pointed out the obvious, "We're missing Ayla."

Finn had always spoken about 3 people, and there was only two boys at the table, so you'd figured there was someone missing, "Yeah, I noticed."

The curly haired boy in glasses pointed to a seat, "You can sit you know" he smiled, offering the seat next to his which you gladly took.

"I'm Malcolm." He mumbled, taking out his hand for you to shake.

"Sup, Malcolm," you smiled politely, taking his hand.

The blonde perked up, "I'm Jack."

"Nice to meet you, Jack"

Finn's grin was widespread, eyes sparkling seeing his favorite people meet

"It's kind of sad Ayla isn't here, it would have been so much better," his smile faded, just a little as he was still extremely content.

Jack nodded and took a sip of his steaming coffee, "ouch" he cringed.

Malcolm's breathy laugh rang out, his hand splayed across his stomach, "Jack you're such an idiot."
