Cas smoothed down his shirt and grimaced at his reflection in the mirror.
It wasn't any good, he'd never be happy with how he looked. Not even in his favourite blue shirt and black pants.
He tried to smooth out his hair but it remained messy and disorderly so he eventually gave up.
Grabbing his trench coat as he left Cas slammed the fragile door to his apartment shut behind him and charged towards the main doors.
Cas knew that if he thought about it too much he'd proberly never turn up to meet Dean, so his plan was to get to the park as quickly as possible without thinking about it.
This plan seemed faultless, until Cas arrived at the park and checked his phone.
10:30
Half an hour early.
He found an empty bench and sat down trying to keep his breathing measured and his head calm.
What if Dean brings up that night?
Cas pulled out the emergency earphones he kept in the pocket of his trench coat and plugged them into his phone pressing play on his 'chill playlist'.
What if it's awkward?
What if Dean's only meeting me to be polite?
The sound of Cas' music hardly reached his ears, his thoughts were deafening.
What if we don't get on anymore? What if we fight? What if he's dating someone?
What if he doesn't show?
That last question became more and more urgent in Cas' mind as the time grew nearer to 11 and there was no sign of Dean.
Cas turned his phone on and off watching the time creep ever so slowly closer to 11.
10:59 am
He turned his phone over with sweaty palms.
11:00 am
He scanned the scenery, an elderly couple holding hands. A man in a cap calming a baby. A woman walking two particularity spritely brown dogs. A lycra clad man cycling.
No Dean anywhere.11:01 am
He's not coming. Oh god. What am I doing. Of course he's not coming, he hates me.
Cas stood up briskly tears welling up behind his eyes. He was ready to head home and cry into a tub of ice cream.
"Hey Cas!"
He spun round quicker than his legs could register and for a moment risked falling onto the grass.
"Oh hey!" Cas blushed. He wasn't sure whether to give Dean a hug or not and he saw Dean seem to contemplate the same question. In the end they mutually settled on no hug without any words shared.
"So how've you been?" He asked a small kind smile painted on his face, one so familiar and so comforting that all of Cas' previous fears and worries melted away immediately. He was dressed much more casual than their last encounter wearing casual blue jeans and a brown leather jacket.
