I woke up with my heart in a panic, cuffed to a metal pole, had thick cloth wrapped around my mouth in a big pitch black room. The floor was cold, damp and deathly silent, it smelt like mold and fresh mud. All I could hear was a dripping pipe maybe a few feet from me, the water had started forming a stream that ran right to my legs. I sat there shaking, I couldn't see anything further than a few inches from me. I could hear distant foot steps from above me then all of a sudden distinct voices. I struggled for what felt like 30 minutes but failed to free my hands from the cuffs and remove my mouth cloth. My wrist started rubbing raw against the metal cuffs, I could feel the sting like it was new every time I moved my hands. It hurt to even breathe, to strain my eyes to see far enough in front of me. My heart was racing and tears started filling my eyes when I heard their conversation fade away, foot steps followed by the heavy door closing. I had no idea who's house I was in or how I got here, I couldn't remember anything from the past few days.
A few hours must've passed cause I fell asleep, my eyes were swollen from the crying. I was alone and had no idea where I was or why I was tied to the floor. I sat there for a few minutes before I heard the heavy door above me open and close. My heart started racing, there was silence then heavy foot steps dragging the floor above me, they followed all across the house to the door that lead to this room. I heard locks clicking, it had to be at least six different locks, I heard another heavy door open then I saw light from the upstairs and a shadow from a hefty, tall man. I started panicking, my heart felt like it was going to rip through my chest. I started trying to stand myself up but my shoes kept slipping in the mud.
I could see where I was, it seemed like a huge, unfinished basement. I could see the large pipe dripping next to me, a few
antiques in a far corner, a large work table and a case full of tools. As I heard was heavy foot steps creep down each step my heart beat faster and harder. I could see the mans feet walk closer to me, I was too afraid to look up. I was shaking, my heart pounding, I couldn't breathe and all of a sudden we were face to face. He was a very structured man, his face could break bricks. His eyes pierced through mine and suddenly I forgot how to breathe. It felt like he could see so far into my soul that he stole it. He had many scars from what seemed like acne, his breath smelt like alcohol. He licked his lips and smiled at me, I got this sudden urge that I wanted to puke. My chest started to burn and tears started streaming down my cheeks.
He looked at me real hard and said perversely, "You shouldn't cry, as long as you're with me you'll be safe."
I started struggling away from him, and he grabbed my face to look at his, "You are scared..? Of what? Don't you know where you are?"
A long pause happened as he held my face, I clinched my eyes and I could feel his staring into my face. He pulled me closer to his face, I could feel his strong hot breath on mine as he whispered to me, "You're home, my dear, you're finally home."I opened my eyes and finally remembered, this is where everything started, where everything went wrong. This was one of the memories you learned to block out, it was your nightmares that came to life. I grew up here as a little girl, my mom, step dad, Ron, and little step sister, Ally. My dad took off shortly after I turned six, my mom then met Ron a few months later and said it was 'love at first sight'. Ron was never sweet, I have no idea what she ever saw in him. About a year later they're married and had a daughter, Ally. She was my world, I raised her from the time I was seven till she went off to college. Ron had a brother, Mason, who shortly moved in and they, together, got my mother strung out on drugs. They were a team and my mother wanted to be apart of it. I grew up having to do everything for myself, Ally, and my strung out 'parents'. I was only seven when I had to grow up, and growing up meant becoming a woman, which Mason took as much advantage of as he could. I never hated anyone, hate was such a strong word, but I hated both of these men. In that moment of remembering something I blocked away for so long, I realized I was staring into the eyes of one of the men that took my whole life away.
