"maybe daffodils can blossom from a coffee bean"
sunday morning 18/9/98
Lee Cheongug
I wonder where this coffee shop is, and why he's being so nice to me. I'm a complete stranger, what a weird boy. Anyway, at least I'll be able to have coffee and think things over, like the school day tomorrow and simple things like money kids my age couldn't give two shits about. I'm still wondering why a kid like him was sleeping in an alleyway, he's so clearly well off. His shirt alone looks more expensive than my entire outfit, but hey he may be struggling with something I won't judge. I hate people judging me so I won't judge others, especially someone like him. He's clearly a nice person and doesn't seem like your average rich kid, at least I don't think so. I mean not many rich kids spend the night sleeping in an alleyway.
Kim Taehyung
I wonder what she's thinking. She probably thinks I'm some creepo, you haven't even asked her what her name is. this whole weekend has been horrible, Jesus Christ. I sleep in an alleyway overnight, with a girl I know absolutely nothing about, invite her to my favorite coffee shop, and now I'm about to have a coffee with her. But what if she doesn't have a home, I'll ask her when we get there. We're almost there anyway so. She being awfully quiet, should I start a conversation? No, that'll just make things more awkward and plus I'll save my conversation topic for coffee. yeah, that's a good idea... "Hey, we're almost there", shes just nodding, I really wonder what she's thinking, she seems so invested in her own thoughts, that's kinda cute... And now I'm smiling like an idiot, what is my problem.
The sun Is slowly rising above the cities skyline, the oranges, yellows, and reds of the early morning are starting to become more intense as the dark blue of the night sky is steadily swallowed up. The breeze is cool but not cold, just comfortable. The two walk in a slightly uncomfortable silence, but that's ok because who wants to have conversations at 5 o clock in the morning. They're both more of a coffee first person, so nothing before the coffee. The footpath was cracked in different places and this was what Cheongug decided to focus on, it gave her time to sort out her own thoughts on different life problems she was challenged with for the umpteenth time this year.
Her life has been pretty screwed for the past two years, to say the least. She's a senior in high school meaning shes 17, shes from a middle-class family and goes to public school. She's more of the quiet type so she doesn't really get a lot of attention at school, she's an amazing singer, she's also an amazing sleeper and prefers these activities over school, to her sleeping and singing are far more intriguing then sitting in classes for 6 hours a day. This was the core reason for her constant parental bickering, it never stopped and she wished her parents would understand that academic is not her forte. She wants to sing and perform, but maybe this wasn't what that guy above had planned for her. Maybe he didn't have one at all and that's the reason she's strolling along the quiet early morning streets of Seoul at 5 am with a complete stranger. The thing that she finds strange about herself is the fact that she doesn't mind, shes willingly walking around with a boy she only just learned the name of.
As for Taehyung, things haven't gone his way for much of his life either. With an extremely demanding father, as well as fake friends, the poor boy's never met anyone truly genuine apart from his mother. His beloved mother who unfortunately died of cancer when he was 16. He admired his mother, her beauty, her intelligence, her elegance and most importantly her gentleness. She was a very gentle and kind woman, this showed Taehyung how he should be; calm, quiet, tender. He was, he grew up to be exactly like her and that's why his father was so cruel to him, because this calm, quiet and tender young man was a daily reminder of what he lost and the pain that took her place. But of course, Taehyung didn't know this, he was still oblivious to these things. That's to be expected, of course, living such a sheltered life where maids run around and get your breakfast, lunch, and dinner was no help to the boy's oblivion; his ignorance.
They both finally arrived at the coffee shop by 5:15 am, a quiet 15-minute walk for the both to reflect on their next move, for Cheongug it was tomorrow, for Taehyung it was the next couple of hours. Taehyung pushed the vintage looking door open, with a slight shove it squeaks open and the chimes hanging from the door loudly clang against each other. A waiter directs them to a small two-seater table where they both settle in comfortably.

I was kinda hoping to get some privacy while I drink my coffee but I guess not. I'll sit with him because he was kind enough to show me this place, but I still don't know his name. "So, mystery man. What's your name?" Why did his eyes widen like that, ooh actually I think this is the first time I've spoken. Yep, that makes sense now, anyway I should listen because names ARE important after all.
Kim Taehyung
"Kim Taehyng" wow finally I said something without stuttering. Well done me! The light from behind the cafe window is shining through her hair and it's making her look so godly I can't think of the words to describe. Her clothes are a bit scruffy but they suit her, in a weird way I guess.
Lee Cheongug
"Ah ok, how old are you?" He looks around my age right, maybe a year or two older. The sunlight shining from behind me is giving his face a golden, natural glow. He looks so angelic I can't cogitate the words to describe him. His jaw, his eyes, his hair, his nose, his lips everything...
Kim Taehyung
"I'm 18, what about you? You seem around the same age"
Lee Cheongug
"I'm a year younger so 17"
The waiter comes over to the pair asking them if they'd like to order anything, Taehyung orders a long black with a shot of milk while Cheongug orders a latte. The waiter smiles and walks back to the baristas placing the order.
After about 7 minutes the waiter comes back with the coffee and places them on the table "enjoy" he says. Cheongug picks up the dainty teacup and slowly inhales the warm steam of the coffee, savoring the coffee scent before taking her first sip of the scorching liquid. The brown, hot drink dances around on her taste buds, slightly burning the roof of her mouth. She shuts her eyes enjoying the smoothness and creaminess. The aroma still lingering in her nose she goes in for a second sip. She exhales in contentment and smiles. She feels relief and she relaxes her shoulder, slumping back into the chair.
Taehyung just sat there. In complete awe of the literal angel sitting in front of him.
Kim Taehyung
She really is heavenly, wait... isn't that what Cheongug means? Heaven? it does, wow her parents knew before she even matured that shed be this ethereal. "Cheongug means heaven, right?"
Lee Cheongug
"Yeah," I'm just gonna keep my eyes closed. This coffee is so damn good wow.
Taehyung finally goes in for his taste of the coffee, except he's more of a fast drinker. He takes a large sip of the strong black liquid letting it swoosh in his mouth for a second before gulping it down, the coffee flowing down his throat like water on a water slide; Like the coffee belonged there. The strong taste of the long black lingers in his mouth for a while.
They both sit there in silence reveling in the calming morning song of birds chirping and the quiet settling jazz music playing throughout the small coffee shop.
